Chapter 1209: Story 1209: Underneath the Rain
EXT. RED SECTOR RUINS – NIGHT – POURING RAIN
Water slamd down like nails on rusted rooftops. Lena’s eyes blinked open, her face slick with blood and rain. The Harbingers were gone. So was the pod.
She rolled over with a groan, her bindings cut—soone had freed her.
DR. RHO (weakly):
“They took her…”
He lay slumped beside a broken wall, barely breathing. Lena pulled him under partial cover and tried to shake clarity into his eyes.
LENA:
“Mouse… she turned on us.”
DR. RHO (rasping):
“Or she never turned… because she was never with us.”
Thunder rumbled. Then—gunfire.
Lena grabbed a shard of pipe and helped Rho limp toward the sound, deeper into the skeletal streets of Red Sector.
EXT. SUBWAY ENTRANCE – MONTS LATER
Through the downpour, flickering light leaked from a half-collapsed subway entrance. Screams echoed. The infected were on the move.
Inside, survivors were pinned down—trapped behind overturned vending machines. They spotted Lena as she entered, soaked and wild-eyed.
SURVIVOR:
“You a soldier?!”
LENA (grimly):
“Sothing like that.”
She didn’t wait—lunging into the chaos, swinging her pipe like judgnt. The infected scattered montarily—but behind them, a larger shape moved.
GROWLING.
A bloated figure, armored in bone and scavenged steel, stepped forward.
DR. RHO (terrified):
“Enhanced. They’ve begun testing her blood.”
LENA:
“They’re creating commanders…”
RHO:
“And turning survivors into hosts.”
The enhanced zombie roared—and charged.
INT. SUBWAY TUNNELS – FIGHT SEQUENCE
A brutal lee broke out. Lena dodged and stabbed, slamd and scrambled. She used the environnt—rail tracks, broken signage, jagged pipes. Rho shot a flare that lit up the corpse’s face—half-Human, half-rotted machine.
A final lunge. Lena drove her weapon through its mouth and out the back of its head. It dropped.
Everyone stood in stunned silence.
Then—whispers.
SURVIVOR:
“That’s the one from the radio. The runner from Redgate.”
They stared at her—not with fear. With hope.
INT. SUBWAY STORAGE ROOM – LATER
Rho lay recovering, while Lena patched her wounds.
One survivor, an ex-firefighter nad Briggs, approached.
BRIGGS:
“We’ve seen the girl. The one the Harbingers call the Vessel. They took her toward the Citadel.”
LENA:
“She’s not just a hostage. They’re using her.”
BRIGGS:
“There’s a way in. Through the lower aquifers. It’s suicide, but…”
LENA (nodding):
“We don’t have ti for safe.”
Thunder shook the tunnel. Rain flooded in faster.
DR. RHO:
“If they extract her blood into the water supply… the entire zone is dood.”
Lena looked up toward the Citadel—barely visible through the grates above.
LENA (resolute):
“Then we drown their plan before it drowns us.”
She loaded her last clip, tied her soaked hair back, and headed for the ladder.
“We go underneath the rain.”
