Chapter 1263: Story 1263: Wrong Way Out

“You’re not supposed to be here yet,” the blue-eyed Juno-clone repeated, voice calm, detached.

The station pulsed with dim, candle-like lights—except there were no flas, only flickering holograms. The dozens of passengers, all identical versions of Juno, Shade, and H-13, stared without blinking. It was a hall of futures, a graveyard of choices.

Shade raised his weapon. “Back away from her.”

The clone didn’t flinch. “You don’t even know which her you’re protecting.”

Juno stepped forward. “This isn’t an escape route, is it?”

“No,” the clone said. “It’s a filter. The train doesn’t carry you out—it selects who deserves to leave. You bought a fare with your mory, but the rest of the price is identity.”

Behind them, the train’s engine began to dissolve into code—pixels flickering like a corrupted simulation.

H-13 scanned the flickering walls. “This whole station… it’s a neurosynthetic chamber. We’re inside the Mind Mirror Layer. One of VIREX’s final sanity tests.”

“Not a test,” the clone corrected. “A trap. They made this to isolate anomalies. You activated too many geno gates, Juno. You’re unstable. They sent your echo here——to lock you down before you destabilize further.”

Juno’s hands curled into fists. “So what happens if I don’t surrender?”

“You take the wrong way out,” the clone said. “And beco part of the loop—forever chasing a freedom that was never yours to begin with.”

The other clones began stepping forward, slowly.

Juno looked to Shade and H-13. “Run or fight?”

“Always fight,” Shade said.

“Not this ti,” H-13 replied, voice tight. “We need to hack the track logic. Change what this station believes is the correct version of events.”

He jamd a neural spike into the station’s interface—his veins lighting up with bio-circuit pulses. The entire platform quaked.

Screams erupted—not from mouths, but from the air. The clones began convulsing, voices lding in painful unison.

“We are the mory. We are the root. You are deviation.”

Juno stepped toward her clone, close enough to touch.

“You think I’m the error,” she said, “but I’m the outco. I’ve walked through death, archives, nightmares. I’ve changed and rembered.”

The clone smiled sadly. “Then prove it.”

In a sudden blur, the clone lunged—but Juno was faster. She grabbed her counterpart and injected the last drop of Serum R-E3 into the clone’s neck.

The clone scread—a sound layered in frequencies only broken tilines could hear.

And then she faded.

Not in death, but reconciliation.

The other clones turned to static.

The station collapsed around them—railway lines bending like nerves, candles dimming into digital dust.

Juno, Shade, and H-13 ran toward a door at the far end, now pulsing with green light.

The sign above it flickered:

“EXIT 3: Not Found.”

They stepped through anyway.

And fell.

Into nothingness.
