Chapter 1265: Story 1265: Storm Over Sector 9

They erged from the simulation like ghosts spat out of a dying machine.

The wrecked taxi slamd into reality, skidding across fractured pavent under a sky that looked like it had been ripped open by a god. Red lightning forked endlessly through clouds that churned like boiling ink. The rain didn’t fall—it slashed, sideways and relentless.

This was Sector 9.

Once a bustling industrial zone, it was now a graveyard of twisted tal and ruined biotech. Massive towers lood like skeletal fingers, and in the center of it all: a colossal spire pulsing with energy. Each lightning bolt it summoned reanimated whatever dead mass lay in its radius.

They had entered the heart of the storm.

Juno helped H-13 out of the cab, the man already analyzing the environnt.

“This is where it began,” he muttered. “VIREX’s early field testing—combining atmospheric weaponization with corpse reanimation. They didn’t expect the weather to evolve with the virus.”

Shade looked up as thunder cracked above them. “What, we fighting zombie weather now?”

Before anyone could laugh, the first Stormwalker appeared.

Once human. Now sothing else.

It stood nine feet tall, its limbs fused with lightning rods and surgical pins. With every strike from above, its body surged with light, muscles snapping, eyes glowing like broken halogen bulbs.

And it wasn’t alone.

Dozens more rose in the streets—silent, jerking to life with each pulse from the tower.

“We run,” Juno said, voice firm.

They dashed through alleys and over collapsed catwalks. Lightning struck ters away, blasting holes in the ground and sending undead into violent seizures.

Each pulse from the tower grew stronger.

It wasn’t random.

It was targeting them.

“The tower’s not just drawing lightning,” H-13 said, panting. “It’s tracking neural signatures. Yours specifically, Juno. It’s scanning for the serum sequence in your blood.”

“So it wants ,” she said.

“No. It wants to upload you.”

As they reached the tower’s periter, Shade kicked open the maintenance hatch. Inside, cables pulsed like veins, and the air crackled with data streams and humidity.

Then a voice bood from inside—cold, chanical, layered with distortion:

“Subject J-13. Template confird. Upload sequence pending. Host interface prepared.”

A figure stepped from the shadows. Human once—but now armored in lightning-plated tech, its face covered by a lted VIREX mask fused to its jaw.

“Welco ho.”

Juno stood her ground, eyes narrowing.

“I didn’t co ho. I ca to shut this place down.”

The tower began to tremble as a storm vortex built directly overhead. The entity raised its hand, and a spear of red lightning danced between its fingers.

Behind Juno, Shade flicked off the safety on his rifle.

H-13 linked his neural glove to the tower’s circuit.

“Now or never,” he growled.

Juno stepped forward, heart pounding.

And whispered:

“Let’s burn this storm from the inside out.”
