The Cradle of Ash groaned like a living wound, its walls of bone pressing inward, sealing Kael and Elara inside with the abomination. The titan’s reshaping body shuddered, light pulsing through its ribs like molten veins, each heartbeat louder, deeper, more terrible.

Kael’s sword glead faintly, its glow dwarfed by the furnace rising before them. His body scread with every step, torn sinew and fractured bone threatening collapse. Still, he moved forward. Beside him, Elara forced her blistered hands into fla again, a trembling defiance flickering in the gloom.

The Unborn’s mouth opened with its first true breath, and the air itself seed to recoil. The exhalation swept across the battlefield like a plague wind—trees shriveled to ash, stones cracked, Kael’s knees nearly buckled as though his very soul had been scoured. Elara cried out, clutching her chest as her fla guttered nearly to nothing.

“This is the breath of beginnings,” the titan’s newborn voice thundered, deeper, sharper, more human than before. “You do not kill what has not yet lived. You cannot end what has not yet begun.”

From its ribs tore loose more spawn, these larger, sharper, their bodies armored in bone like the shards of its own cage. They sward forward, screeching in unison, a tide of claws and teeth.

Kael t them head-on. His sword flared as he carved through one, then another, but each strike left his arm shaking, his breath ragged. The light dimd each ti he faltered. Elara staggered to his side, thrusting out her arms. What little fire she had left ignited in a desperate wall of fla, holding the swarm back for re heartbeats.

“Kael,” she gasped, blood on her lips, “if it finishes—if it completes itself—”

He cut her off with a roar, swinging his blade in a wide arc that split three spawn at once. “Then we don’t let it finish!”

The titan’s chest split wider, its ribs peeling apart to reveal a blazing core—a heart of fire and shadow, throbbing with malignant life. Its half-ford hands reached into its own cavity as though to crown itself in birth.

Kael saw it, and his resolve hardened. He broke through the swarm, each step a storm of agony, his sword blazing with every strike. Spawn fell in heaps behind him, their black ichor sizzling on the molten ground.

Elara, seeing his path, summoned everything she had left. Her flas burst upward in a column, searing the walls of the cradle and driving the swarm back, though the effort tore a scream from her throat. She collapsed to her knees, her fire extinguished to smoke.

Kael leapt through the opening, raising his sword high. The titan’s newborn face twisted in fury as he drove his blade downward—aid at the blazing heart.

Steel t fire. Light exploded, a detonation that shook the cradle itself. The walls cracked, the sky split, and the Unborn let out a scream that was less pain than sheer rage.

Kael fell to one knee, his sword buried to the hilt in the heart of beginnings.

And the titan, for the first ti, staggered backward in silence.
