Chapter 1676: Story 1676: The Choir of Embers
The first of the Forgotten Suns now hung in the newborn sky, trembling like a candle caught between breaths. Its light spilled across the Sea That Dreams, and where it touched, the waves shimred with color—scarlet, gold, and ghostly blue. But beneath that rebirth, a low hum began to stir.
Zara heard it before Damien did. A deep, resonant vibration carried through the air, threading between the waves. “The Sea is… singing,” she whispered.
The Pulse pulsed faintly, its glow returning to full strength. Not the Sea alone. The suns that remain are calling to one another. This is the Choir of Embers—an ancient harmony ant to bind their light together.
Damien shaded his eyes. Across the horizon, the faint glimrs they had seen before now burned brighter—tiny suns awakening, pulsing in rhythm with the first. But their voices were not all the sa. So sang in warmth and gold; others in cold, fractured tones, as though their light had forgotten joy.
“Their song isn’t whole,” Zara said. “It’s… broken.”
Because so rember creation, said the Pulse, and others rember the fire that destroyed it.
The raft drifted toward one of the darker suns—an island surrounded by black mist, where the waves hissed instead of shimred. In the island’s heart burned a sphere of red light, cracked and flickering like an ember on the verge of dying.
As they approached, a deep voice echoed from the fla itself.
“Why should we rise again? We were betrayed by the sky that abandoned us.”
Zara stepped forward. “You weren’t abandoned. You were buried—by ti, by grief. But the world still needs your warmth.”
The red fla pulsed harshly. “Warmth breeds life. Life breeds war. We burned the first ti to stop it.”
The air thickened with heat. The sea boiled near the shore. Damien moved protectively beside Zara. “If we can’t convince it, it’ll consu the others.”
Zara’s eyes glowed faint gold. “Then we remind it that even pain can shine.” She knelt, pressing her palm into the sand. The pulse of her energy spread outward, weaving with the broken song. Her voice joined it—soft at first, then clear and strong.
“Fire rembers death. But it also rembers dawn.”
The red sun trembled. The cracks across its surface flared white. A low tone joined the Choir—deeper, sorrowful, but harmonized. The other suns answered, their light brightening in response.
The Pulse’s voice softened. The Choir is whole again. Each sun carries both creation and ruin, and now they sing of balance.
Zara rose, breathless, watching as the black mist dissolved. The crimson sun lifted slowly into the sky beside its golden sibling, their lights intertwining.
Damien looked at her with quiet awe. “You turned anger into music.”
Zara smiled faintly. “No. I just helped it rember what silence sounds like.”
The Choir of Embers grew stronger, their voices spreading across the world like threads of fla and hope. The Sea That Dreams glowed once more—no longer mourning, but listening to the sky’s rebirth.
And sowhere beyond the horizon, a deeper light stirred—waiting for its turn to awaken.
