Now reading: Chapter 1717: Story 1717: The Dreaming Earth from Horrific Shorts: Zombie Edition, a Action novel by Sir Faraz.

The night that followed was unlike any before it.

For the first ti in centuries, dreams returned to the world.

Children slept and saw oceans that no longer existed. The old wept as visions of lost faces brushed their thoughts. Even the soil seed to dream—flowers closed their petals not in fear, but in mory. The air shimred faintly with the pulse of sleeping life.

And at the center of it all stood Lyra.

Her body was no longer entirely mortal. Golden veins of light traced her skin, pulsing softly with every heartbeat. Shadows curled around her like a cloak—living, breathing, patient. She felt everything: the heartbeat of mountains, the whisper of rivers, the sigh of the stars.

She was the Vault now.

And the world was beginning to rember her.

But mory, once awakened, is never gentle.

The ground trembled beneath her feet. From the soil rose shapes—not n or beasts, but echoes. Pale, translucent, shimring with fragnts of history. So smiled at her as they passed; others scread as if torn from their own ti.

“Why are they here?” Lyra whispered.

“Because they were never gone,” a voice answered.

She turned. From the golden mist stepped Elias and Mara—or what was left of them. Their forms flickered like reflections in disturbed water, but their eyes were warm, alive.

“Mara...” Lyra breathed. “I thought you were—”

“Gone?” Mara smiled softly. “No, child. We are the mories that chose to stay.”

Elias nodded. “The Vault has reawakened everything it once buried. But not all mories belong in the waking world. So will try to live again.”

As if to prove his words, the sky cracked with sound. A distant roar thundered across the horizon. From the west, sothing massive moved—shapes made of smoke and thought, crawling out of the earth. Forgotten fears. Ancient wars. The nightmares of mankind made real.

Lyra gripped the air, and golden light gathered in her palms. “Then I’ll stop them.”

Elias stepped forward. “You can’t destroy mory. You must guide it. Give it form. Purpose.”

“A world cannot live only in light,” Mara added. “Nor in shadow. You must teach it to dream without breaking.”

Lyra closed her eyes. She felt the rhythm of the earth—the slow, pulsing heartbeat beneath it all. Every dream connected to another, every life threaded by rembrance.

She raised her hands, and the world responded.

The roaring shapes slowed, dissolving into glimring dust that drifted into the night sky. The ground stilled. The air humd like a lullaby sung by the stars.

Mara’s voice faded into the wind:

“Every dawn begins in darkness. Rember that.”

When Lyra opened her eyes, the valley below shimred like gold seen through tears.

The sun and moon hung together above the world—equal, endless, whole.

And for the first ti, the earth itself dread with her.
