The age of waking did not begin with peace—it began with noise.

The quiet world Kael left behind erupted into cries, hamring, and the clash of will against will. Humanity, unbound from the dream, found itself face-to-face with its own reflection—hunger, pride, and fear.

The Cradle, once serene, now burned with the colors of conflict. Villages turned to fortresses; prayers turned to shouts. For when people first learn they are free, they do not yet know what to do with freedom.

From the heart of this awakening rose a woman nad Serin Vale—a blacksmith’s daughter with the gaze of one who saw beyond the dawn. She had dread of Kael once, as a child, and had woken with a mark on her wrist—a faint spiral of light, the remnant of the Dreamkeeper’s touch. When the chaos began, she alone could still hear faint whispers in the wind.

One night, as storms gathered over the valley, Serin stood before her people.

“We woke to live,” she said, gripping the haft of her forge hamr, now reforged into a weapon. “Not to destroy what we were. The world was gifted to us. Let us not lose it in our first breath.”

But others would not listen. From the east ca The Veilborn, followers of the Waking—those who believed the dream’s remnants were poison, that mory itself was a chain. They sought to burn the old shrines, to silence the whispers of Kael once and for all.

When their torches reached the edge of the Cradle, Serin t them.

Lightning cut across the sky. The Veilborn chanted, their leader—a man wrapped in silver armor—stepped forward. His eyes glead with unnatural light.

“Step aside, child of dreams,” he said. “The world must be purified.”

Serin raised her hamr. “Then it will learn to fight back.”

The first clash shook the air. Sparks flew as her weapon t his blade—a sound like thunder trapped in steel. Every strike echoed with the mories of the Dreamkeeper, as if the dream itself refused to die.

The Cradle’s waters began to glow, responding to the battle. From its depths rose faint figures of light—echoes of sleepers past, watching, whispering, rembering.

“He left us a choice,” Serin cried, driving her hamr into the ground. “To rise through the dream, not against it!”

The earth shuddered. The Veilborn fell back as ripples of luminous energy spread outward, dissolving their torches. The lake’s reflection burst into fire and light—Kael’s radiance reborn in the heart of humanity.

The armored leader dropped to his knees. “He... still watches,” he whispered.

Serin stood over him, her eyes burning like dawn. “No. He trusts us to stand.”

The storm broke. The Cradle cald once more, its glow steady. The battle was over, but the war for the soul of the waking world had just begun.

In the wind, faint and soft, a voice lingered:

“Fight, but never forget why you wake.”

And Serin Vale, the Hamr of Dawn, looked toward the rising sun—ready to defend the fragile miracle of life Kael had left behind.
