The Remnant charged.
It moved faster than its massive size should have allowed, tearing through abandoned cars and shattered barricades as if they were paper. Zombies scattered—not fleeing, but orbiting it, drawn into its gravity like insects to a fla.
“MOVE!” Damon shouted.
Shadow and Ember split instantly—Shadow darting left, low and fast, Ember surging right in a powerful arc. Lira grabbed Damon’s arm and pulled him backward just as the Remnant’s fist smashed into the ground where he’d stood.
The impact sent a shockwave through the street.
Concrete cracked. Rain exploded upward. Damon hit the ground hard, skidding across wet asphalt. Pain flared—but sothing else flared with it.
Heat.
Not external.
Inside his chest.
The mark.
Damon sucked in a sharp breath and pushed himself up as the Remnant swung again. Ember slamd into its leg, jaws locking onto rotting muscle. The creature roared, twisting violently, ripping chunks of itself free just to shake her off.
Shadow leapt for its throat.
The Remnant caught him mid-air.
“No!” Lira scread.
Before the creature could crush him, Damon moved—without thinking.
He thrust his hand forward.
The rain around his arm vaporized.
A pulse erupted from his palm—not light, not fire, but sothing deeper. The air bent. The street groaned. The force slamd into the Remnant’s chest, blasting it backward into a building with bone-splintering force.
Shadow dropped safely to the ground, skidding but alive.
Everyone froze.
Including Damon.
He stared at his hand, breath ragged. The heat inside him hadn’t faded—it had settled, coiled and waiting.
Lira stared at him, wide-eyed. “Damon... what did you just do?”
“I—” He shook his head. “I don’t know.”
The Remnant dragged itself upright again, its chest cavity cracked open. Inside, fragnts of glowing mories churned violently, reacting to Damon’s presence.
“You... are... ANOMALY...” it thundered.
Zombies surged forward again, faster now, their movents jerky and aggressive.
Ember snarled, bloodied but unbroken. Shadow took position at Damon’s side, eyes burning.
Damon stepped forward.
The Remnant reacted instantly—its attention locking fully onto him. The zombies hesitated, as if awaiting command.
“That thing isn’t here to kill us,” Damon said, realization dawning. “It’s here for .”
Lira swallowed. “Because of the Origin.”
Damon nodded. “I broke its pattern. Whatever I took with —whatever it lost—it wants it back.”
The Remnant raised its arms.
The zombies lunged.
Damon clenched his fists.
The mark inside him burned hotter—not painful, but demanding.
“Stay behind ,” he said quietly.
Lira shook her head. “Not a chance.”
She stepped beside him, hands glowing faintly. Shadow and Ember flanked them, united.
The Remnant roared again, the sound echoing through ruined streets like a declaration of war.
Damon t its gaze.
“You don’t get to erase us anymore,” he said.
The rain stead around him as the power inside finally answered his will.
And for the first ti since the world ended—
Damon wasn’t just surviving.
He was fighting back.
