Capítulo 2106: Story 2106: The Hunger That Walks

The howl did not fade.

It rolled across the dead city like thunder trapped beneath the streets.

Elena Voss slowly stood, her legs shaking as she stared through the cracked bedroom window. The distant skyline trembled in the candlelight reflecting off broken glass.

Sothing massive was moving.

Not fast.

But unstoppable.

The shape drifted between the ruined buildings like a shadow larger than the city itself.

Every few seconds another deep howl echoed across the darkness.

The sound vibrated through the walls of the apartnt.

Even the zombies in the hallway had gone quiet.

Behind Elena, the creature stepped forward beside her. Its glowing yellow eyes stared through the window as its claws slowly scraped against the floor.

“Elena…” it growled softly.

She didn’t turn.

“What is it?” she asked.

The creature’s voice ca in slow, broken words.

“Hunter.”

A chill crawled down Elena’s spine.

“That thing… hunts?”

The creature shook its massive head.

“No.”

Its glowing eyes narrowed toward the city.

“It feeds.”

The floorboards creaked behind them.

Elena turned.

The crooked eye symbol on the broken doorfra was moving again.

The thin black liquid dripping from it had reached the floor. The dark drops twisted across the wood like living veins.

Each pulse of the mark was stronger now.

Faster.

Outside the room, the hallway began filling with movent again.

Zombies shuffled closer to the doorway.

But they didn’t attack.

They gathered.

Watching the mark.

Waiting.

One corpse slowly stepped forward until it stood directly beneath the carved symbol.

It tilted its head upward.

Then it opened its mouth.

Not to bite.

To scream.

The sound that burst from its throat was sharp and unnatural. The cry echoed through the building like a signal flare.

Another zombie joined it.

Then another.

Soon the hallway was filled with shrieking corpses, all facing the mark on Elena’s door.

“They’re calling it,” Elena whispered in horror.

The creature’s fur bristled.

“Yes.”

Another howl echoed through the city.

But this one was closer.

Much closer.

The building itself vibrated.

Dust fell from the ceiling.

The shadow zombies on the walls began to scatter wildly, their silent faces twisting in terror.

Even they were afraid.

Elena’s voice trembled.

“What happens when it gets here?”

The creature slowly turned its glowing eyes toward her.

Its answer ca in a low, dreadful whisper.

“Everything… eaten.”

A loud crash echoed from sowhere below the building.

Then another.

Glass shattered.

Concrete cracked.

The creature rushed toward the window and looked down into the street.

Elena stepped beside it.

Her breath stopped.

The road below the apartnt building was filled with zombies.

Hundreds of them.

They crowded the street like a sea of gray flesh.

And every single one of them was facing the sa direction.

Toward the far end of the city.

Toward the approaching thing.

Another howl tore through the night.

This ti the sound was so loud that Elena’s ears rang.

The creature’s eyes widened.

For the first ti since Elena had t it…

The monster under the bed looked afraid.

“Elena…” it growled urgently.

“Run.”

She stared at the massive swarm of zombies below.

Then back at the living symbol carved into her door.

“But where?” she asked weakly.

The creature turned its glowing eyes toward the dark hallway.

Its voice dropped to a low, grim whisper.

“Down.”

Another violent crash shook the building.

From sowhere deep beneath the apartnt…

Sothing answered the distant howl.

A second roar.

Closer.

Hungrier.

Elena felt the floor tremble beneath her feet.

Because whatever was coming for the mark…

It wasn’t alone anymore.
