The fracture did not wait.

It tore.

A sharp, echoing crack split the sky wider, black light spilling through like sothing forcing its way past a boundary that no longer held.

Elena Voss felt it instantly.

The shift.

The loss.

The control she once had over the door—

Gone.

The strand around her hand tightened, no longer gentle.

Not painful.

But no longer asking.

“It’s... changing,” she whispered.

The guardian stepped forward, placing himself between her and the sky again.

“No,” he said.

“It’s done asking.”

Above them, the presence pushed closer.

Its form began to stabilize further, not fully visible, but no longer uncertain.

Now it had direction.

Now it had intent.

The watchers reacted sharply.

Their massive shapes scattered outward, circling at a greater distance, their movents erratic.

They were no longer observing calmly.

They were avoiding.

Because sothing greater than them was crossing a line they could not control.

The armored beast roared again, louder than before.

It stepped forward, directly beneath the widening fracture, its enormous body braced as if it could physically hold the sky apart.

A futile act—

But a defiant one.

The ground cracked beneath its weight.

Elena’s chest burned violently.

The slit widened again.

The thin opening she had barely contained now stretched deeper, longer.

No longer a crack.

A seam.

Her breath broke into panic.

“No—no, I didn’t let it—!”

“You didn’t have to,” the guardian said grimly.

“It found the weakness.”

Another pulse erupted.

Stronger than any before.

This ti, the world didn’t just tremble—

It shifted.

A nearby building flickered.

For a split second, its structure bent inward, its edges dissolving into dark strands before snapping back into place.

Elena saw it.

And understood.

“It’s already starting...”

The guardian’s voice hardened.

“Then we stop it.”

She turned to him, desperate.

“How?!”

He hesitated.

Just for a mont.

Because there were very few answers left.

Then he said it.

“You close the door.”

Elena stared at him.

“I tried that!”

“Not like this,” he said.

“This ti—you don’t push it out.”

He looked directly at the crack in her chest.

“You take it back.”

Her breath caught.

“What?”

Another violent pulse surged.

The strand yanked tighter, pulling her slightly forward.

The presence above responded instantly, the fracture widening again in sync.

The connection was complete now.

A path.

A channel.

A bridge.

The guardian stepped closer, his voice urgent.

“It’s using you to enter this world.”

Elena’s voice trembled.

“I know!”

“So you reverse it,” he snapped.

“You don’t let it co through—”

He pointed at her chest.

“You go to it.”

Silence.

Even with the sky breaking apart—

Even with reality bending—

Those words hit harder than everything else.

Elena shook her head slowly.

“That’s not closing the door...”

The guardian didn’t look away.

“No.”

A pause.

“It’s becoming it.”

Above them, the presence leaned closer.

The fracture stretched wider, black light pouring through like a second sky trying to overwrite the first.

The watchers scread in the distance.

The armored beast roared and lunged upward, slamming its massive body into the air beneath the fracture—

As if trying to disrupt the connection itself.

The impact shook the entire city.

But the fracture didn’t close.

It didn’t even slow.

Because it wasn’t just in the sky anymore.

It was in her.

Elena’s hand trembled violently.

The strand pulsed.

Waiting.

Calling.

She could feel it now.

Not just the presence—

But the space behind it.

Endless.

Watching.

Patient.

If she stepped forward—

If she let go—

If she followed it—

The door wouldn’t just close.

It would move.

From this world—

To her.

Her voice broke.

“If I do that...”

The guardian didn’t answer right away.

Because he knew the truth.

And so did she.

“...I don’t co back,” she finished.

The strand pulsed once.

As if confirming.

Above them—

The fracture widened further.

Ti was running out.

The world was already starting to bend.

And the choice had changed again.

Not between yes and no.

But between two endings.

The guardian stepped closer, his voice quieter now.

“Heavy doors don’t close without a cost.”

Elena looked up at the sky.

At the thing that answered.

At the world beginning to unravel.

Then back at her own trembling hand.

And for the first ti—

She understood what being the keeper truly ant.

Not control.

Not power.

But sacrifice.

The strand tightened.

The sky cracked wider.

And Elena Voss took a slow step forward—

Toward the door that no longer belonged to the world.

But to her.
