Possibility was not ant to exist here.

Not anymore.

And yet—it spread.

Ayaan felt it ripple outward the mont the two pulses collided again. The perfect rhythm surged with overwhelming force, trying to restore order, to overwrite everything back into a single, unquestionable state. But the broken rhythm resisted, unstable yet persistent, refusing to disappear.

The result was not destruction.

It was division.

The street beneath them fractured—not into pieces, but into versions. Ayaan staggered back as the ground seed to duplicate itself, layers of reality sliding over one another like misaligned reflections. In one layer, the buildings stood flawless and complete. In another, they twisted into impossible shapes. In yet another, they flickered between states, unable to decide what they were ant to be.

Zara stared in horror. “Ayaan... I can see it... all of it...”

He nodded, his voice strained. “It’s not choosing anymore.”

Because it couldn’t.

The system that had once demanded perfection now faced sothing it could not resolve. And instead of correcting it—it began to split around it.

The people suffered first.

Their bodies flickered violently, their movents desynchronizing as conflicting realities tried to define them at once. So stood perfectly still, their faces calm and resolved. Others convulsed, their forms distorting as the broken rhythm tore through them. And so—

So simply vanished.

Not into darkness.

But into absence.

Zara gasped as one of the figures beside her blinked out of existence mid-step, leaving nothing behind—not even a trace. “Where did they go?” she whispered.

Ayaan didn’t answer.

Because he didn’t think they had gone anywhere.

They had just... stopped being chosen.

Above them, the sky split further. The massive presence that had once filled it seamlessly now appeared in fragnts—sections of its form visible in so layers, missing in others. Its eye flickered in and out of existence, no longer constant, no longer certain.

For the first ti—

It looked incomplete.

The man fell to one knee, his calm finally breaking entirely. His hands trembled as he stared at the fractured world around him. “This cannot sustain,” he said, his voice unsteady. “It will collapse.”

Zara turned toward him. “Then let it.”

But Ayaan shook his head.

“No,” he said quietly. “It won’t collapse.”

Because he could feel it.

Even now, even divided, the system was still trying to resolve itself. Still searching for a way to unify what had been broken. Still adapting.

“It’s learning again,” Ayaan said.

Zara’s expression tightened. “Learning what?”

Ayaan looked at the shifting layers around them—the overlapping versions of reality, each one incomplete on its own.

“How to exist with both.”

The pulses collided again—harder than before.

This ti, the effect was imdiate.

The layers didn’t just overlap.

They interacted.

A building in one version collapsed—while in another, it remained standing—and for a brief mont, both outcos existed in the sa space. The result was sothing impossible: a structure that was both intact and ruined, flickering between states faster than the eye could follow.

Zara stumbled back. “This is wrong... this is all wrong...”

Ayaan nodded. “It is.”

But sothing inside him shifted again.

The unfinished thought—the broken one—was no longer alone.

It had spread.

Not perfectly.

Not completely.

But enough.

The system was no longer dealing with a single contradiction.

It was facing many.

The man looked up at Ayaan, his expression filled with sothing that hadn’t existed before.

Fear.

“You’ve changed the outco,” he said.

Ayaan t his gaze, his voice steady despite everything.

“No,” he replied.

“I’ve made one.”

The sky trembled violently as the two pulses clashed again—neither winning, neither fading.

And for the first ti—

The world didn’t choose what it would beco.

It waited.
