The darkness moved.

Across the Sea of Unfinished Dreams, golden waves trembled.

The Dreamkeeper slowly rose beneath the silver tree.

Its ancient hands shook.

Its weary eyes remained fixed upon the distant horizon.

"They found ."

The words echoed once more.

This ti, everyone understood the fear hidden within them.

The Witness stepped forward.

Golden and silver light surrounded Maya.

"Who found you?"

The Dreamkeeper did not answer imdiately.

Far beyond the island, the darkness continued retreating.

Not fleeing.

Making room.

As though sothing enormous was approaching from within it.

The sea grew silent.

The unfinished dreams drifting across its surface stopped moving.

Even the lullaby faded.

Waiting.

Watching.

The oldest Mystery narrowed its gaze.

The Journey beca still.

The Final Answer studied the horizon carefully.

Then shapes appeared.

At first they resembled shadows.

Nothing more.

Dark silhouettes erging from beyond the dream-sea.

Yet the closer they ca, the stranger they beca.

They possessed no stable form.

Dreams flowed through their bodies.

Stories flickered across their surfaces.

Entire possibilities appeared and vanished within them.

The Witness felt an ache in her soul.

Not fear.

Loss.

Because wherever the shadows moved, dreams faded.

A floating city made of music dissolved into mist.

A story never written vanished from the waves.

An unborn possibility disappeared forever.

The Dreamkeeper lowered its head.

"They feed."

Silence spread.

The Second Question brightened uneasily.

Feed on what?

The answer ca softly.

"Tomorrow."

The sea shuddered.

Far away, throughout existence, countless drears stirred in their sleep.

Children forgot adventures they had imagined only monts before.

Artists abandoned masterpieces they had never painted.

Inventors lost discoveries that had almost been born.

The shadows were not consuming dreams.

They were consuming futures.

Back on Earth, Lucas sat beside the frozen lake.

The notebook rested in his lap.

Earlier, he had written a single sentence.

Now he could not rember what ca next.

The idea lingered just beyond reach.

Fading.

Slipping away.

For the first ti, he felt genuine fear.

Not for himself.

For what might never exist.

Beyond reality, the shadows reached the edge of the dream-sea.

There were hundreds of them.

Then thousands.

Then countless more hidden behind them.

The Witness stared.

"What are they?"

The Dreamkeeper’s eyes reflected ancient sorrow.

"They are what remains when dreaming ends."

The lantern sea flickered faintly in the distance.

The roads of becoming dimd.

Across every reality, futures grew narrower.

The shadows continued forward.

Not malicious.

Not hateful.

Hungry.

A terrible realization struck Maya.

The beings were not invading.

They were starving.

For ages beyond counting, they had survived by consuming forgotten possibilities.

Now the Dreamfall had created an endless feast.

The Companion stepped beside the Dreamkeeper.

Silver light brightened around it.

"They were never ant to reach this place."

The Dreamkeeper nodded.

"I know."

The oldest Mystery finally moved.

For the first ti, concern darkened its ancient gaze.

Because sothing larger walked behind the shadows.

Sothing hidden.

Sothing directing them.

The darkness parted further.

The sea trembled.

The silver tree shed glowing leaves into the waves.

And from beyond the horizon erged a colossal shape.

Not a shadow.

Not a dream.

A crown.

An imnse crown woven from forgotten futures.

It floated above the darkness like a silent king.

The Dreamkeeper closed its eyes.

The Witness felt her heart tighten.

Because she suddenly understood.

The shadows were not the enemy.

They were followers.

And their ruler had finally arrived.

The crown tilted toward the island.

Toward the Dreamkeeper.

Toward Maya.

Then a voice echoed across the sea.

Ancient.

Empty.

Endlessly hungry.

"At last."

The dream-ocean darkened.

And the future itself held its breath.
