The Alpha lood closer, its glowing red eyes piercing through the haze. Andre stood his ground, finger on the trigger, waiting for the right mont. But before he could fire, an electric hum crackled through the air. The Alpha paused mid-stride, tilting its monstrous head as if sensing sothing.
Andre's heart raced. The sound wasn't natural—it was deliberate, sharp, and rhythmic. A voice followed, faint but clear, carried by the wind.
"Get down!"
Andre barely had ti to react before a bolt of blue energy sliced through the air, striking the Alpha square in the chest. The beast roared in pain, stumbling backward as sparks danced across its armored fra. From the shadows, a figure erged—clad in a torn but unmistakable red sweater dress, black leather harnesses glinting in the light.
It was Zara.
Andre's rifle fell from his hands, clattering to the ground. "No way... No way."
Her short black hair frad her face, streaked with ash and blood, but her eyes burned with the sa fire he thought they had lost forever. Zara held a strange device—a hybrid of old-world technology and sothing unrecognizable—its core glowing with a pulsating blue light.
"You miss ?" she said, smirking as she leveled the device at the Alpha.
Andre blinked, trying to process what he was seeing. "Zara? How—"
"No ti for a reunion," she interrupted, taking a step forward. "This thing's smarter than it looks. Keep its attention while I take it down."
The Alpha recovered quickly, snarling as it fixed its glowing eyes on Zara. It charged, the ground trembling beneath its massive weight. Zara moved with precision, dodging its strike and firing another energy bolt that sent it reeling.
Andre snapped out of his shock, picking up his rifle and joining the fight. "I thought you were dead!" he shouted, firing a volley of shots at the creature.
"So did I," Zara replied, ducking under the Alpha's swinging claws. "Turns out, the explosion didn't kill —it threw into one of their underground tunnels. I woke up surrounded by tech and... other things."
"Other things?" Andre growled, emptying his clip and reloading.
"I'll explain later," Zara said, her tone sharp as she unleashed another blast from her device. "Right now, let's finish what I started."
The Alpha roared in fury, swiping at Zara with a speed that defied its size. She stumbled but recovered quickly, her movents sharper, almost enhanced. Andre noticed it too—she wasn't just alive; she was different.
Together, they fought with a rhythm that seed almost practiced. Andre provided cover fire, forcing the Alpha to defend itself, while Zara used her new weapon to exploit its weaknesses. Finally, with a deafening roar, the Alpha collapsed, its massive body hitting the ground with a resounding thud.
Zara stood over it, panting, her eyes eting Andre's. For a mont, neither spoke.
"You've got so explaining to do," Andre finally said, lowering his rifle.
Zara smiled faintly, the glow of her weapon fading. "Yeah, but first, we've got bigger problems. This wasn't the last Alpha. It was just the beginning."
