Zara crouched low in the dim corridor, her breath steady as she studied the digital map on her wrist device. The underground facility was a labyrinth of steel and stone, a forgotten relic of pre-apocalypse technology. Sowhere in its depths, the beacon she'd been tracking emitted a faint but persistent signal.

"Not much farther," she whispered to herself, gripping her pistol tighter.

The silence was unnerving, broken only by the occasional hum of flickering lights. Each step she took was calculated, her senses sharpened to detect even the slightest movent. The tension was palpable, a coiled spring ready to snap at any mont.

As Zara turned a corner, her eyes landed on a slumped figure against the wall. A man, clad in tattered combat gear, his chest rising and falling faintly. She approached cautiously, her weapon trained on the shadows.

"Hey," she called softly, nudging him with the toe of her boot.

The man stirred, his eyes fluttering open. "Who...?" he muttered, his voice hoarse.

"Zara Kincaid," she replied curtly. "Who are you, and what are you doing here?"

"Na's Rowan," he said, coughing. "Was tracking the sa beacon...ran into trouble."

Zara's gaze shifted to the bloodied bandage on his arm. "Trouble, huh? What kind?"

As if on cue, a guttural growl echoed down the corridor. Zara's heart skipped a beat, and Rowan's face paled.

"That kind," he muttered.

From the darkness erged a grotesque figure—a mutated zombie, its limbs elongated, its eyes glowing with an unnatural light. Zara wasted no ti. She fired a shot, hitting the creature square in the chest. It staggered but didn't fall.

"Move!" she barked, pulling Rowan to his feet. Together, they bolted down the corridor, Zara leading the way.

"That thing's tougher than the usual," she noted, glancing over her shoulder.

"It's a Sentinel," Rowan explained between breaths. "Enhanced. Smarter. Deadlier."

They rounded a corner and burst into a larger room, a control hub with monitors and consoles lining the walls. Zara quickly scanned the room for anything useful.

"Can you fight?" she asked Rowan, who was leaning heavily against a console.

"Not in this state," he admitted, holding up his injured arm.

"Great," Zara muttered, reloading her pistol.

The Sentinel appeared in the doorway, its glowing eyes locking onto them. Zara fired again, aiming for its head this ti. The creature lunged, dodging the shot with unnerving speed.

Thinking fast, Zara grabbed a nearby tal rod and swung it with all her strength, knocking the Sentinel back. "Find a way to lock that door!" she yelled at Rowan.

Rowan fumbled with the console, his fingers flying over the keys. With a loud clang, the door slid shut, trapping the creature on the other side.

"That won't hold it for long," Rowan warned.

"Then we better move fast," Zara said, her gaze fixed on the beacon's signal.

The hunt was far from over.
