The faint glow of flickering neon lights reflected off the slick tallic walls of the subway platform as Zara adjusted her crimson blouse, its tailored cut allowing freedom of movent without sacrificing style. Her holsters hugged her sides, her hands resting lightly on the grips of her pistols, ready for anything.

The survivors moved with hurried urgency as Zara took in her surroundings. The abandoned station was eerily silent except for the occasional drip of water echoing through the vast space. She could feel the tension in the air—a mix of fear and hope that clung to them like the dust motes swirling in the dim light.

Rowan approached her, his eyes scanning the platform for threats. "This place doesn't feel right," he murmured.

"It's not supposed to," Zara replied, her voice steady. "But it's the best chance we've got. The tunnels give us cover and keep us off the radar for now."

Marcus stepped forward, his irritation palpable. "You said we'd be safe here. This doesn't look safe to ."

Zara turned to him, her expression calm but firm. "I said this was a temporary stop. If you want guarantees, you're in the wrong world."

Before Marcus could respond, a sharp, tallic clang echoed from the far end of the platform. Zara's hand darted to her weapon as the survivors froze in place.

"Stay here," she ordered, motioning for Rowan to follow.

They moved in tandem, their steps silent as they approached the source of the sound. Zara's heart quickened as they reached the edge of the platform, peering into the darkness of the adjoining tunnel.

A faint glow emanated from deep within, accompanied by the unmistakable hum of machinery. Zara frowned, exchanging a glance with Rowan.

"This place was supposed to be abandoned," he whispered.

"Clearly, soone didn't get the mo," she replied, her voice low.

As they crept closer, the glow intensified, revealing a makeshift setup of computers, cables, and monitors. At the center of it all stood a lone figure—a man in a patched leather jacket, his back turned to them as he worked feverishly at the controls.

Zara raised her weapon. "Step away from the console. Slowly."

The man froze, his hands hovering over the keyboard. After a tense mont, he turned to face them, his expression one of calm defiance.

"Well, well," he said, a hint of amusent in his voice. "Looks like I've got company."

"Who are you, and what are you doing here?" Zara demanded.

The man smirked. "Na's Kellan. And as for what I'm doing... let's just say I'm trying to keep the lights on in this city of nightmares."

Zara's eyes narrowed. "That's a lot of tech for soone just keeping the lights on."

Kellan's smirk widened. "You're quick. I like that. But if you want answers, you're going to have to trust . And trust is a rare currency these days."

Zara didn't lower her weapon. "Trust is earned, not given. Start talking."
