Bulwark shifted uneasily, his heavy boots grinding against the stone. "Let's just blow it open and deal with what's inside."
"No," Rook said firmly. "We don't know what's waiting for us on the other side. Viper, work your magic."
As Viper set to work, the team ford a defensive periter. The oppressive silence was broken only by the faint scraping of Viper's tools and the occasional flicker of the torches.
"This place gives the creeps," Bulwark muttered, his grip tightening on his weapon.
"You're not alone," Shadow replied, her eyes scanning the shadows for movent.
Suddenly, the torches along the walls flared brightly before extinguishing completely, plunging the team into darkness.
"Night vision on!" Rook ordered.
The team's goggles activated, revealing faintly glowing runes on the door and the walls around them. The symbols pulsed like a heartbeat, and a low, guttural hum filled the air.
"Sothing's happening," Ghost warned, raising his weapon.
The ground beneath them began to tremble, and a deep, resonant voice echoed through the chamber. "You dare to enter the sanctum of the forsaken? Turn back, or face annihilation."
Rook clenched his jaw. "We don't have ti for gas. Viper, how much longer?"
"Almost there," she said, her fingers flying over the lock. "Whatever's powering this chanism is fighting ."
The humming grew louder, and spectral figures began to erge from the walls—shadowy, humanoid shapes with glowing eyes and razor-sharp claws.
"Engage!" Rook barked.
Bulwark unleashed a storm of bullets, his heavy weapon lighting up the darkness. Shadow picked off the figures with precision shots, while Ghost moved like a phantom, taking down enemies with silent efficiency.
"Got it!" Viper shouted as the door creaked open, revealing a narrow staircase spiraling downward into a faint, greenish glow.
"Move, now!" Rook commanded.
The team rushed through the doorway, and Viper slamd it shut behind them. The spectral figures clawed at the barrier, but it held firm.
As the team descended the staircase, the oppressive air grew colder. At the bottom, they found themselves in a cavernous chamber. In the center stood a massive, ancient altar, its surface glowing with arcane symbols.
"This is it," Rook said grimly. "Whatever we're looking for, it's here. Stay sharp."
Unseen eyes watched from the shadows as the team approached the altar. The battle for survival had only just begun.
