The golden haze of the evening sun painted the crumbling town with a deceptive warmth, but the moans of the undead shattered any illusion of serenity. The once-bustling square was now a battleground, with decaying buildings on either side acting as ominous sentinels. Smoke billowed from burning piles of corpses, but the horde showed no signs of slowing.
Captain Marcus Kane and his team of ZETU operatives stood at the epicenter of the chaos. The zombies were faster now, more coordinated, as though the intense heat of the sun had awakened sothing primal within them.
"Sunlight isn't slowing them down anymore," Marcus growled into his comms, reloading his shotgun. "This is new. Stay on high alert."
On the rooftops, Riley "Quick Shot" Bennett adjusted her scope, picking off zombies with precision. "We're running low on ti, Captain. They're spreading through the alleyways—this square won't hold much longer."
"Understood," Kane replied. "Blaze, lay down a fire wall to buy us ti. Shield, stay close to the survivors. Huntress, report on your evac status."
"Survivors are secured in a safehouse, but they're scared out of their minds," Detective Lila "Huntress" Navarro responded. Her dual pistols spat fire, taking down two zombies that had tried to sneak up on her. "I don't think they can travel far in their condition."
"Noted," said Kane. "Brain, how's our extraction?"
Ethan "Brain" O'Connor's drone buzzed overhead, providing a bird's-eye view of the battlefield. His fingers flew over his tablet, directing the UAV to scout alternate escape routes. "The main road's blocked. Too many vehicles and too many bodies. We'll need to push through the southern exit if we want to make it out alive."
"Copy that," Kane said. "Quick Shot, cover the southern approach. Everyone else, form a defensive line and move!"
Jenna "Blaze" Hart activated her flathrower, a stream of fire roaring into the oncoming horde. The flas illuminated the town square, turning the advancing zombies into writhing silhouettes. "Co on, you rotting freaks! You want a piece of ?" she yelled, her voice filled with defiance.
Behind her, Derek "Shield" Coleman held his ground, his massive riot shield absorbing the relentless pounding of the undead. "Blaze, don't get too far ahead!" he shouted, bashing a zombie to the ground and finishing it with his baton.
Suddenly, an eerie shriek echoed through the streets, chilling the team to the core. A new kind of zombie—a hulking, disfigured brute—erged from the shadows. Its massive fra tore through the horde, heading straight for the team.
"Target sighted!" Riley called out, lining up her shot.
"Everyone, focus fire!" Kane commanded.
Bullets and flas collided with the creature, but it kept coming, its grotesque roar shaking the ground. The ZETU team braced for impact, knowing that the night was just beginning—and survival was anything but guaranteed.
