The dying sun cast a blood-red hue across the ruined cityscape. Shadows stretched and danced among the buildings, weaving through crumbled streets littered with corpses and abandoned vehicles. But as the last rays of light dipped beneath the horizon, the real terror erged—a wave of feral zombies sprinting out from the darkness, their twisted forms illuminated by the faint glow of flas engulfing the nearby district.
ZETU barely had ti to regroup after escaping the hospital inferno. The sewers had delivered them into an abandoned square at the edge of the district now aptly called "The Inferno Zone." The blaze in the area had started days ago but wasn't accidental. Soone—or sothing—was using fire as both a weapon and a distraction.
"What's the plan, Captain?" Riley "Quick Shot" Bennett asked as she adjusted her scope, scanning the streets ahead. She paused, eyes narrowing. "We've got movent."
Captain Marcus Kane stood amidst his team, sweat dripping down his face as the oppressive heat licked at their gear. "We're heading straight through. We don't have ti to circle back—not with the swarm behind us."
"Straight through?" Jenna "Blaze" Hart grinned, holding her flathrower at the ready. "I like the sound of that."
"Not so fast," Lila "Huntress" Navarro interjected, crouching to examine fresh tracks in the ash-covered ground. "It's not just zombies ahead. These tracks… they're human. And fresh."
"Survivors or hostiles?" Marcus asked, shotgun in hand.
"Does it matter?" Derek "Shield" Coleman said, hefting his riot shield. "If they're in our way, we push through."
A shrill, otherworldly screech split the air, silencing the team's chatter. Ethan "Brain" O'Connor cursed as he glanced at his tablet. "That's not normal. I'm picking up heat signatures—fast movers, closing in."
"Positions!" Marcus barked.
The team scattered, taking up defensive spots along the square. Riley climbed a nearby derelict building, her sniper rifle trained on the incoming threat. The first zombie erged, sprinting faster than anything they'd encountered before. Its charred skin glowed faintly in the firelight, and its eyes burned with unnatural fury.
"Shooters, aim for the head! Shield, hold the line!" Marcus shouted.
Derek braced himself as the zombie barreled toward him, its claws slamming into his shield. With a grunt, he shoved it back, and Marcus finished it with a shotgun blast.
"More incoming!" Riley called out, picking off three zombies in quick succession. But for every one that fell, two more appeared.
"Blaze, light it up!" Marcus ordered.
Jenna stepped forward, unleashing a torrent of fire that engulfed the charging horde. The flas consud them, but the heat began to drain her as smoke thickened in the air.
"We can't hold this spot for long," Ethan warned. "The fire's spreading too fast."
"Then we push forward," Marcus said, reloading his shotgun. "Stay tight, and watch your six."
The team moved as one, cutting through the inferno with bullets, blades, and fire. But as they neared the edge of the zone, a massive figure erged from the flas—a Titan, its molten skin radiating pure heat.
"Tell we've got a plan for that," Lila said, her voice steady despite the monster towering over them.
Marcus smirked. "The sa plan as always: survive."
