The team stood at the edge of the quarantine zone, a desolate wasteland littered with biohazard containers and rotting remains. A faint green mist hung in the air, carrying the stench of decay and chemicals. The sun cast an eerie glow through the haze, illuminating the figure shambling toward them—a zombie clad in a tattered safety vest, its gaunt fra riddled with signs of advanced mutation.
"Radiation levels are spiking," Ethan warned through the comms. "Whatever's keeping these things alive here isn't natural. You need to be quick."
Marcus adjusted his mask, his voice muffled. "We're not leaving until we figure out what's causing this."
The zombie let out a low growl, its glowing, yellowed eyes locking onto the team. As it staggered closer, Riley picked up her rifle.
"Let put it down," she said, taking aim.
"Wait," Lila interjected, stepping forward. "Look at its gear—it was a worker here. There might be sothing on it we can use."
Marcus nodded. "Shield, Blaze, cover her. Huntress, see if it's carrying anything useful."
Jenna and Derek moved to form a defensive periter as Lila crept closer, her pistols trained on the zombie. It snarled, its bony fingers twitching as it lunged toward her.
"Gotcha," Lila muttered, dodging its attack and firing a precise shot at its knee. The zombie crumpled to the ground but kept clawing toward her. She knelt quickly, searching its torn vest and pants.
"Bingo," she said, holding up a keycard marked with the biohazard symbol.
"Good find," Marcus said. "Let's move before we attract more attention."
The team advanced deeper into the toxic zone, weaving through piles of rubble and discarded equipnt. Each step felt heavier as the air grew thicker with radiation. The faint hum of machinery echoed from the distance.
"There's a facility ahead," Ethan reported. "Looks like an old containnt lab. Whatever's causing this ss is likely inside."
As they approached, the ground trembled, and a screeching roar filled the air. From behind a stack of containers erged a massive zombie, its flesh warped and glowing with a sickly green hue. Its movents were erratic but powerful, each step shaking the earth.
"Juggernaut!" Riley yelled, taking a shot. The bullet struck its chest but barely fazed it.
"Blaze, we need fire on that thing!" Marcus shouted.
Jenna fired her flathrower, engulfing the creature in flas, but the Juggernaut charged through the inferno, swiping at her with its massive, irradiated arm. Derek leaped in front, his shield absorbing the brunt of the impact but sending him crashing into a pile of debris.
"Focus fire!" Marcus ordered, unloading his shotgun into the creature's head.
Lila darted behind the Juggernaut, slashing at its legs with her knife, while Riley aid for its exposed joints. The creature roared, staggering but refusing to fall.
"Captain, the facility's door is open!" Ethan called. "You need to get inside and shut it down!"
"Go!" Marcus commanded. "Shield, Blaze, fall back!"
As the team retreated toward the lab, Marcus grabbed a grenade, pulling the pin and hurling it at the Juggernaut. The explosion sent the creature to its knees, buying them enough ti to seal the door behind them.
Inside, the hum of machinery grew louder, and the air felt even heavier. At the center of the room was a glowing reactor, pulsing with unnatural energy.
"That's the source," Ethan said grimly over the comms. "Shut it down, or this entire zone will spread."
Marcus looked at his team. "Let's finish this."
