The wasteland stretched endlessly, a barren expanse of cracked earth and ash-covered ground. A thick fog rolled across the horizon, shrouding the advancing horde in an eerie silhouette. These were not the typical zombies ZETU had faced before. Their forms were skeletal and encrusted with stone-like growths, their movents deliberate and unnervingly synchronized.
"Petrified zombies?" Riley "Quick Shot" Bennett muttered, squinting through the scope of her sniper rifle. "That's…new."
Captain Marcus Kane surveyed the scene from the vantage point atop a crumbling overpass. "It's not just new. It's a problem," he said, tightening his grip on his shotgun. "They're heading straight for Sector 3B. That's where we evacuated the survivors."
Ethan "Brain" O'Connor tapped furiously on his tablet, scanning the swarm for data. "These things are giving off minimal heat signatures. Their bodies are… calcified. Standard rounds might not work as effectively."
Jenna "Blaze" Hart cracked her knuckles. "Guess that ans we bring the heat. Incendiaries should turn them to rubble."
"Blaze, prep the napalm rounds. Shield, we'll need you to hold the line while we figure out how to stop this mass," Marcus commanded.
"On it," Derek "Shield" Coleman replied, slamming his riot shield into the ground. His eyes were fixed on the horde as they neared, their glowing, empty eye sockets focused like they had a singular purpose.
As the first wave reached their position, the team opened fire. Riley's sniper shots found their marks, but the petrified creatures barely flinched, the bullets chipping away at their stony armor. Jenna launched an incendiary grenade, the explosion lighting up the battlefield. The fire spread quickly, engulfing several zombies in flas, but instead of disintegrating, they marched forward, their charred forms cracking and hissing.
"They're resistant to fire!" Ethan shouted, panic creeping into his voice. "We need to find their weak point!"
"Then buy so ti," Lila "Huntress" Navarro said, darting toward the edge of the battlefield. She disappeared into the fog, her twin pistols holstered as she switched to her tracking gear.
"Stay sharp, Navarro," Marcus said, blasting another zombie that got too close.
Lila navigated the chaos, scanning the horde for any sign of their leader or a point of origin. Her infrared goggles picked up a faint anomaly near the center of the mass—a towering figure pulsating with energy.
"I've got sothing," Lila reported through the comms. "There's a central figure. Looks like it's controlling the swarm."
"Coordinates?" Marcus asked.
"Marked," Lila said, planting a tracking beacon on the ground.
"Blaze, Shield, with !" Marcus ordered. "We take out the big one. Quick Shot, Brain, cover us!"
The team pushed through the swarm, Derek's shield absorbing relentless blows while Jenna lobbed grenades to clear a path. As they neared the central figure, the air grew heavy, the ground beneath them vibrating with unnatural energy.
The towering zombie turned to face them, its body encased in blackened stone, its red eyes glowing brighter than the rest. It let out a guttural roar, and the petrified horde surged forward with renewed vigor.
"This is it," Marcus growled. "Take it down or we're finished!"
