The sky churned with an eerie green mist as the ZETU team stood at the edge of a vast pit, its depth obscured by swirling fog. The last mission had led them here—after escaping the Marsh of Shadows, they had traced the source of the skeletal zombies to this very location. Reports spoke of survivors, but what lay ahead was sothing far worse.
"This place feels…wrong," Lila "Huntress" Navarro muttered, her fingers tightening around the grip of her dual pistols. "Like the air itself is alive."
"Stay sharp," Captain Marcus "Iron Will" Kane commanded. He tapped his radio. "Brain, what do you see from above?"
Ethan "Brain" O'Connor's drone hovered high above the pit, its night vision scanning the depths. "Oh, hell," he breathed. "There's movent. And a lot of it."
The pit trembled, and suddenly, hands—hundreds of them—began to claw their way out of the abyss. Skeletal figures, rotting husks, and twisted, half-human monstrosities dragged themselves up, reaching skyward as if summoned by so unseen force. Their soulless eyes glowed faintly in the mist, their mouths open in silent agony.
Jenna "Blaze" Hart took a step back. "That's more zombies than I've ever seen in one place."
"No kidding," Riley "Quick Shot" Bennett muttered, quickly adjusting her sniper rifle's scope. "Tell we're not going down there."
Marcus gritted his teeth. "We have no choice."
As if responding to his words, the horde let out a deafening screech and surged forward.
"Contact!" Derek "Shield" Coleman roared, raising his riot shield just as the first wave slamd into them.
Marcus fired his shotgun, tearing through the nearest creatures. Riley picked off targets with deadly precision, but there were too many. They moved like a single, writhing entity, pushing forward with unnatural speed.
Jenna let loose a burst of fire, her flathrower carving a path through the mass, but for every zombie that fell, three more took its place.
"We're getting overwheld!" Lila shouted, slicing through decayed flesh with her combat knives.
Ethan's voice crackled through the comms. "Guys, I don't think this is just another outbreak. My scans show…sothing huge beneath the pit. Whatever these things are, they're protecting it."
A deep, guttural growl rumbled from the abyss. The ground shook violently, and a massive shape began to rise.
Marcus reloaded his shotgun. "We fall back. Now!"
The team sprinted toward higher ground, but the horde was relentless, clawing at their heels. Just as all seed lost, a blinding light erupted from the pit—sothing was waking up.
And it wasn't human.
Marcus exchanged a look with his team. They had faced horrors before, but this? This was sothing else entirely.
The battle for survival had only just begun.
