The air in the ruined cathedral grew thick—heavy with decay and unseen malice. The Warden of the Chained lood before the ZETU team, its elongated claws twitching, its hollow gaze locked onto them. The Chained Ones behind it groaned and shifted, their bodies writhing as though struggling against their eternal tornt.
Marcus "Iron Will" Kane tightened his grip on his shotgun. "Weapons hot. We bring this thing down."
The Warden raised a hand, and the chains in the cathedral shuddered. In a split second, rusted links snapped from the walls, moving like serpents, wrapping around the team.
Derek "Shield" Coleman barely raised his riot shield before a chain coiled around his arm, dragging him backward. "Damn thing's got a mind of its own!" he snarled.
Riley "Quick Shot" Bennett rolled aside, her sniper rifle lining up a shot—but the Warden moved unnaturally fast, vanishing into the shadows.
Then it whispered.
A voice slithered through the cathedral, deep and layered, as if spoken by a hundred cursed souls.
"They were bound for a reason. Now, you will take their place."
From the darkness, the Chained Ones shrieked and lunged.
Jenna "Blaze" Hart unleashed a wall of fire, her flathrower roaring to life. The flas scorched the undead, but the Warden's influence kept them moving.
"We need to stop it! The Chained won't fall if it's still standing!" Ethan "Brain" O'Connor shouted.
Lila "Huntress" Navarro darted into the shadows, using the flickering firelight to track the Warden's unnatural movent. She saw it skittering along the walls, its chains stretching like tendrils, pulling it forward like a spider weaving a web.
She fired.
A direct hit. A glowing blue wound erupted in the Warden's chest, its form distorting like smoke caught in the wind. It howled, the entire cathedral shaking.
Marcus saw his opening. "Light this place up!"
Jenna tossed a high-yield incendiary charge into the mass of writhing chains and undead. The explosion sent flas cascading through the cathedral, turning the vines into ash.
The Chained Ones screeched in agony, their cursed bodies crumbling as the Warden's control weakened.
The creature lunged in desperation, its blackened talons slashing—but Marcus t it with a shotgun blast point-blank to the head.
The Warden convulsed, its chains snapping and retracting, dragging it back into the shadows.
"This is not over…"
Its voice echoed and faded, and in its place, a new silence settled.
The team stood among the charred ruins, their breaths heavy. The Warden was gone—for now—but its warning remained.
Ethan exhaled. "That thing… it wasn't a zombie."
Marcus nodded grimly. "No. It was sothing worse."
Outside, the fog thickened, and in the distance, sothing else began to stir.
