834: Story 834: Rebirth 834: Story 834: Rebirth The scream was like a thousand voices crying out in agony, a warped distortion of sothing no longer human.
Evelyn stumbled back, her ears ringing from the unholy sound.
The air shimred as the corpse of the Sleeper twisted and convulsed.
From the gaping hole in its skull, sothing new was pushing free.
A writhing, fleshy mass erged—a second head.
But this one was different.
Larger.
Stronger.
Its exposed brain pulsated violently, protected by a layer of shifting bone-like plates that snapped into place like armor.
Mia cocked her shotgun, eyes wide with horror.
“Oh, co the f*** on.”
Reaper didn’t hesitate.
He rushed forward, his combat knife gleaming in the firelight.
He swung down, aiming for the new head—but the creature was faster.
A clawed appendage shot out from the corpse’s chest, catching Reaper mid-strike.
He was flung through the air, slamming into a wrecked car with a sickening crunch.
“Reaper!” Evelyn shouted.
The Sleeper—**or what it had beco—**began to rise.
Its twisted limbs snapped and reford, flesh lting and reshaping into sothing grotesquely efficient.
It no longer moved like a mindless beast.
It studied them.
A predator.
The firelight revealed its full form—its arms elongated, tipped with razor-sharp talons.
Its legs thickened, built for explosive speed.
And at its center, the new head sneered, its grotesque tongue slithering through jagged teeth.
It had evolved.
“F*** this,” Mia hissed, opening fire.
BOOM.
BOOM.
BOOM.
The shots **ripped into its flesh—**but it didn’t stop.
The wounds sealed instantly, the creature’s body adapting before their eyes.
“We need a plan,” Evelyn gasped, pulling Mia back.
Reaper staggered to his feet, blood trickling down his face.
He wiped it away and growled, “No ti for a f***ing plan.”
The creature lunged.
Mia barely dodged as a clawed hand tore through the space where she’d been standing.
The force split the asphalt like it was nothing.
Evelyn’s mind raced.
They couldn’t kill it the sa way.
It was regenerating too fast.
They needed to burn it.
She spotted sothing—a half-crushed fuel truck nearby.
The ruptured tank was still leaking gasoline.
That was their shot.
“Mia!
We need fire!”
Mia caught on fast.
She sprinted toward the truck as the Sleeper turned on her.
Reaper intercepted, slamming into the creature’s side, driving his blade into its ribs.
“Co on, ugly!”
The creature whipped around, roaring, its claws slashing toward him—
“NOW!” Evelyn scread.
Mia fired into the leaking fuel.
The explosion was instant.
A wave of flas erupted, engulfing the creature.
It screeched in agony as its regenerating flesh ignited.
The team hit the ground as the fire roared skyward.
The Sleeper writhed, burning alive.
Its mutations failed.
Its flesh cracked.
And finally…
It stopped moving.
Silence.
Evelyn exhaled, shaking.
“It’s over.”
But deep in the shadows, sothing else watched.
