Mira exhaled, gripping the Cursed Book tighter.
The others fanned out—Draven with his shotgun raised, Zara’s daggers gleaming in the dim candlelight, Elias gripping his revolver like a lifeline.
The mansion stretched endlessly in both directions.
Ornate wallpaper peeled like rotting flesh.
Portraits stared, their subjects’ eyes shifting when no one was looking.
The chandeliers flickered, casting elongated shadows that moved on their own.
“This place is wrong,” Elias muttered.
“No kidding,” Zara whispered back.
Then—a voice.
Soft.
Fragile.
Calling.
“Help… …”
Mira turned sharply toward the grand staircase.
A figure stood at the top.
A child, her dress torn, her hair tangled.
She clutched a doll missing its eyes, and in the candlelight, her skin looked almost… transparent.
Draven tensed.
“Mira, don’t.”
But Mira was already moving.
The whispers were inside her head now.
“Please,” the child whimpered.
“They won’t let leave.”
Mira reached the bottom of the stairs.
“Who won’t?”
The girl lifted a trembling hand—pointing behind them.
Elias turned first.
Then Zara.
Then Draven.
And then they saw them.
From the walls, from the shadows, figures erged—faceless, hollow-eyed things, their fingers too long, their mouths sewn shut.
They did not walk; they floated.
The hallway darkened, the candlelight snuffed out in an instant.
A single voice slithered through the gloom.
“You do not belong here.”
Draven fired.
The shotgun blast roared through the hall, but when the flash faded—the figures remained.
Zara cursed.
“Mira, we need to move.”
The child stepped backward, her form flickering like a dying fla.
“They want you to stay…”
Then she was gone.
The faceless things lunged.
Mira barely had ti to react before cold, skeletal fingers wrapped around her wrist.
A horrid pull, like her very soul was being yanked from her body.
Elias fired off three shots, the bullets passing straight through the creatures.
“RUN!” Draven roared.
They bolted up the staircase, taking the rotting steps two at a ti.
The figures pursued, gliding across the floor with unnatural speed.
The walls seed to breathe, the house itself shifting, warping.
At the end of the hall—a door stood open.
No ti to think.
They rushed inside, slamming it behind them.
The whispers… stopped.
Mira gasped for breath.
The room was cold, untouched by ti.
In the center stood a massive mirror, its glass black like deep water.
Etched into the fra were words.
“Speak the na, and the door will open.”
Zara exhaled.
“I have a feeling we don’t wanna know what’s on the other side.”
Mira looked down at the Cursed Book.
The pages had flipped open on their own.
A single na glowed.
And sothing on the other side of the mirror… was watching them.
