Chapter 24- Grey Wolf
The two stared at the deer with a rather surprised expression before they finally dropped their guards slightly. It wasn’t a beast, but rather a small animal, fortunately for them.
"We need to continue moving," Zen said calmly as he looked at Cipha. The girl nodded her head after staring at the deer for a few seconds, her eyes lighting up for a second.
Zen noticed that and imdiately, a smile ford on his face. The reason for Cipha’s odd expression was sothing quite adorable.
’What most people don’t know about Cipha is that she really loves cute animals a lot. We did own a small puppy, but we couldn’t really keep it around due to the nature of our work.’ He thought to himself. ’I should definitely get her a cute animal in the future. Noted.’
With that, the two turned around to walk away. But, at that mont, the deer suddenly flinched as if it had been scared by sothing, then it turned around and ran away into the bushes.
Zen’s eyes instantly sharpened as he spread his senses around. Just as he did, sothing suddenly jumped from the bushes on the other side. The creature was gigantic, looming over the two instantly as it leaped in the air.
"Cipha!" Zen quickly pushed Cipha to the side as he summoned his sword.
*CLANG*
"Agh!" He groaned in pain as he felt the entire weight of the monster fall on him. Sliding back several feet, he used his sword to co to a stop as he looked up. There, standing several feet tall was a gigantic grey wolf. Its eyes were filled with bloodlust and its mouth was dripping with saliva.
It stared at Zen angrily as it growled loudly.
"Shit... A Grey wolf..." He clenched his teeth. These creatures were quite strong, and so of them could even reach B-Rank if they grew enough. This one didn’t seem weak at all, and he could tell.
So, he brandished his sword and looked at Cipha. "Can you fight, Cipha?"
"Of course." She replied as she swayed her hand and instantly summoned the weapon she had brought with her. It was a beautiful, long white sword, carved with beautiful engravings and marks across its fra.
"I will be taking its aggro, and I want you to find an opportunity to attack its weak point." He said.
"Are you sure you can move? You’re injured, Zen."
"I will be fine, it can’t really kill ," Zen said with a calm tone as he channeled his Soul Essence and dashed forward. Even though it hurt like hell to move, he ignored the pain and closed the distance between him and the wolf.
The monster growled even louder and leaped at him again, throwing its sharp claws at him. Zen instantly side-stepped the attack and sliced with his sword, leaving a deep gash in the monster’s left leg. It screeched and jumped back.
’Hmm, it’s quite fast. I would say it’s a D-Rank wolf. Dammit, if I weren’t injured, I would be able to kill it easily.’ He clenched his teeth as he held his side and then aid the sword at the monster.
"Co on, is that all you got?"
The creature glared at him before it growled again and attacked with even more aggression. Zen gripped his sword tightly and dashed forward, dodging the monster’s first claw attack and then stopping and deflecting the monster’s mouth as it tried to bite him.
Using all his power, he pushed it away several steps before he attacked again, slicing through its paws with imnse precision. Cipha watched everything happen with wide eyes. She couldn’t believe her own eyes.
’What... is happening?’
Zen was moving so swiftly and efficiently that it completely shocked her. Not a single move he was making was wasteful as he easily and effectively dismantled the monster with terrifying ease. In a matter of seconds, he left deep sword slashes across its body, and the monster couldn’t even touch him. Even though he was injured, he still made it seem so effortless.
’Where did he learn to fight like that? He shouldn’t be able to move that way.’ Cipha thought to herself. ’I’ve only seen seasoned Hunters fight with such efficiency... He couldn’t have learned that in a short period of ti.’
However, she was witnessing it with her own eyes as the monster howled in pain while Zen moved like a phantom, slashing through its body.
He swayed left and right, dodging every attack and then countering at the perfect ti, dealing devastating damage to the monster.
’Ti to try poison hands since I didn’t get to try it.’ Zen thought to himself as he channeled his energy and activated the new rune. Imdiately, the palm of his hand lit up with a weird blue color. That blue matter was poison. A very potent poison. Then, Zen looked at the monster that was barely able to stand on its feet. The pain and the blood loss had exhausted it and its eyes started weakening.
Zen stared at it silently for a second before he dashed forward and closed the distance between them. Then, he leaped in the air as he slamd his hand down on the monster. The creature opened its mouth wide to try and stop him. However, Zen quickly flipped his body around used his sword, slashing through its face.
"ROAR!!!!!"
The monster howled in pain as it fell to the ground, tossing and turning. Zen landed beside it and then using his poisoning hand, he slamd it on its injured spot, letting the poison seep into its body directly. The creature’s crazed rampage beca even more aggressive so Zen quickly tried to move away before it could hit him.
However, at that mont, he suddenly felt a sharp pain hit his body out of nowhere. ’Shit...’ He cursed as his body stumbled forward. ’I think I made my injury even worse!’
Before he could even understand what happened, the monster’s body slamd into him violently, sending him flying in the air as he landed like a ragdoll, slamming against a nearby tree.
"Agh!" He groaned loudly as he held his side. ’Fuck... Fuck!!! I landed on my ribs!’
The pain he felt at that mont was suffocating, and he could swear he felt another bone break from the impact. anwhile, the monster continued rolling around as if it were burning alive. The poison had seeped into its body and started its effect... Failing its organs one by one, while it suffered the pain through it all.
"Zen!" Cipha snapped out of her daze when she saw that, as she quickly rushed toward the monster and brandished her sword. Using her montum, she leaped in the air and stabbed down. Her sword swiftly sank into the monster’s chest as it popped its heart.
The creature’s movents instantly stopped as its eyes widened for a second and then closed slowly as it drifted away into eternal slumber.
One attack and the monster was swiftly dead. Cipha stared down at the monster and then at Zen before she pulled her sword out and rushed toward him.
"Zen! Are you ok?" She crouched next to him.
"Ugh... Yeah... I’m fine..." He said with a wincing look. "I think I broke more ribs..."
