"I almost thought it was a robot." Sun Hang tugged at the corners of his mouth.
"Eighth Squad, codena ’Exorcist’." The Hunter walked over to Sun Hang’s side and took off the hat on their head.
The remaining half of her head was covered in horrific scars, while the other half was entirely artificial, with exposed cranial bones gleaming with a bronze tallic luster, and an electronic prosthetic eye embedded in her eye socket spinning around.
"Did soone blow your head off?" Sun Hang was a bit curious, "Being able to survive that, you really have so luck."
He instinctively reached up to touch his own temples; not long ago, his head had been hit once as well—a bullet was just two centiters away from striking his temple, but thankfully it ultimately hit the tough skull instead.
The stray bullet ca from a Sheriff’s nine-milliter handgun, which wasn’t very powerful. Plus, the angle was quite off, so the bullet didn’t penetrate the skull but instead grazed it, leaving a finger-width scar on the side of Sun Hang’s head.
After Sun Hang absorbed the Tai Sui and gained self-healing abilities, that scar disappeared without a trace.
Unfortunately, while Tai Sui could heal bullet wounds, it couldn’t restore the mories the bullet took from Sun Hang.
"Yes, I was quite lucky as well." The Exorcist unbuckled the case from her back, "Looks like you need my help."
"This Mysterious Creature is tough to deal with." Sun Hang glanced behind him with the corner of his eye and asked, "Where’s your collection device?"
"Destroyed." The Exorcist said with indifference, "After we approached the giant cocoon, we were attacked by a stream of energy. I’m the only one from the Eighth Squad who survived, while the equipnt was vaporized along with my team mbers by the energy stream."
"I’ve got good news and bad news." Sun Hang looked up at the noblewoman and continued, "The good news is that I’ve already set up the collection device, and it can start operating soon; the bad news is that this Mysterious Creature seems to have absorbed the mories of the Hunters that were taken down, so it knows the importance of the collection equipnt. It consistently targets the collection device as a priority in battle."
"How long does it take to collect the sample?" The Exorcist asked.
"Not sure, it could be a few seconds if we’re quick, or it could take a few hours." Sun Hang relayed what Zhong Ling had told him to the Hunter.
"Tsk... I don’t like tasks without a clear deadline." The Exorcist muttered softly, "It’s like when my boss makes work overti but never tells how late I have to stay."
"Just so you know, if we get that level of attack again, I won’t be able to block it." Sun Hang said.
As soon as he finished speaking, as if to sync with Sun Hang, the noblewoman slowly took a step forward.
"You head over to the collection device, I’ll handle things here." The Exorcist patted the box she took off her back.
This box was over a ter long, forty centiters wide, and about a palm thick. It was a standard aluminum ammunition box... but unlike regular ammo boxes, it was covered with yellow talismans, filled with writing that Sun Hang couldn’t understand.
"Are you sure you can handle this thing?" Sun Hang couldn’t help but ask.
"There’s a term called ’matching expertise’." The Exorcist said, "I can sense that this thing is a Spiritual Body Type Mysterious Creature, so your physical attacks won’t be very effective."
"Were you watching from nearby all along?"
"The commotion from your fight was so loud I saw it from afar. It just took a bit of ti to get here." The Exorcist said, pointing to the mud wrapped around their legs, "The path was hard to traverse, and without my vehicle, it’s a miracle I even made it here."
Sun Hang took two steps back, recalling those scattered liquid tal blades back to his side: "Then you should know its attack style, so I won’t say more."
"Well then, let show you what a professional is like." The Exorcist said, swiftly ripping off the talismans from the box.
Sun Hang imdiately felt an overwhelmingly strong aura of a Mysterious Creature emanating from the box.
This Exorcist was not just a Mysterious Creature Hunter but also a suitable candidate for Deceitful Equipnt.
Ye Jiu had told Sun Hang that the majority of Deceitful Equipnt candidates weren’t infected—they didn’t carry fragnts, and for infected individuals, unless their fragnts highly matched those of the Deceitful Equipnt, the sync rate between them wouldn’t be high.
As for infected individuals and Deceitful Equipnt originating from the sa source, although they guaranteed a high sync rate, the frequencies were so close that the infection process could easily exceed dangerous thresholds, leading to complete infestation.
A sync rate that’s either too low or too high, neither scenario is suitable for being a candidate, which is why infected candidates make up only a small proportion of Deceitful Equipnt candidates.
Just when Sun Hang thought the Exorcist would take out a Peach Wood Sword, Compass, or Duster from the box, no one expected that she would pull out a short-barreled, large-caliber shotgun.
The overwhelming aura of a powerful Mysterious Creature that Sun Hang felt earlier was continually emanating from this shotgun.
"Oh boy..." Sun Hang muttered, "Now that’s truly integrating the ’Dao’ of nature."
Ballistics are also a path, shooting is also a technique... nothing wrong with this at all.
The Exorcist loaded a slug into the shotgun, then bit her finger and sared her blood on the barrel.
The blood was imdiately absorbed by the barrel, and in the next mont, a series of blood-red patterns appeared on the surface, resembling relief art painted with fluorescent red paint from afar.
The noblewoman seed to dread the shotgun in the Exorcist’s hands, quickening its pace and striding toward her, the blood-red dress transforming into a giant axe, swinging horizontally at her waist!
The Exorcist reacted quickly, making a light backward leap, flipping fully in the air.
Before her feet touched the ground, her calves trembled violently, shaking off all the mud wrapped around them—Sun Hang only then noticed that not only her half head and voice box were artificial, but both her legs were chanical prosthetics as well.
The exoskeleton on the Exorcist’s legs split open, revealing nurous nozzles of varying sizes. These nozzles simultaneously spouted flas, propelling her body upward to the level of the noblewoman’s head. anwhile, she raised the fully loaded shotgun and pulled the trigger at the noblewoman’s head!
"Boom!"
A deafening gunshot rang out.
Sun Hang imdiately activated bullet ti, staring intently at the shotgun’s muzzle.
The giant slug shot out from the muzzle, and in the instant it left the barrel, the intricate patterns wrapped around the barrel followed, encasing the bullet.
In normal ti flow, one could only see a bright red flash striking the noblewoman’s head, followed by a massive burst of blood mist.
A shrill scream echoed as the noblewoman lost her prior elegance—she covered her face with both hands, stumbling backward.
The Exorcist did not halt her pursuit. She loaded a second slug into the chamber, once again saring her blood on the barrel.
"Boom!"
The second shot rang out, creating a half-ter-wide hole in the noblewoman’s chest, the edges lting like wax and continuously dripping down.
"Boom!"
The third shot sounded, severing the noblewoman’s arms and leaving half her head missing.
The shrill screams ca to an abrupt halt.
