Repeated calls received no response, and the squad leader imdiately realized the problem. Even before he could give an order, a female team mber rushed towards the building, imitating Maxim’s movents, using the rubble to leap forward and lunged towards the window!

This window was painted on the outer wall of the building! This window didn’t exist at all!

"A creature! This building is a creature too!" The machine gunner shouted in horror, "It’s a type-G creature!!"
"Calm down!" Sniper Grazkov said in a low voice, "The ruins of this entire city are all type-G creatures, let alone this building."
"But Maxim is still in there! The building has swallowed him!" The female team mber got up from the ground and once again rushed to the front of the building, smashing the wall with the butt of her gun, "Maxim! Can you hear my voice? Maxim!!"
"Veronica, step aside!" The squad leader approached and yanked the woman nad Veronica away.
Imdiately, he took out a red and a white block of "plasticine" from his tactical pouch at his waist, kneading them into strips with one in each hand, then twisted the two strips together and slapped them onto the outer wall of the building with a "smack".
A slender tal tube resembling a match was inserted into the "plasticine," and the leader gently twisted the end of the tal tube, then quickly retreated.
"Everyone back! Back!" The leader shouted loudly, "The explosion radius is five ters! But secondary collapse cannot be ruled out! Everyone retreat to an open area!!"
"Captain! Maxim is still in there!" Seeing the captain intending to forcefully break the wall with explosives, Veronica couldn’t help but shout.
"I know!" The captain said without looking back, "But this is the only way to save him!"
As soon as the words fell, a thunderous "boom" instantly drowned out everyone’s voices.

It was Maxim’s face, grinning with a stiff smile, blood-red eyes resembling those of a blood-thirsty beast.

To tighten defense and concentrate combat power, all buildings around the Mysterious Creature Research Institute have been requisitioned, and this Base No. 4 was modified from a chain hotel just three kiloters from the research institute.
It is now used as temporary lodging for Hunters and their direct superiors who ca from other city-states to provide support—in comparison with other bases converted from civilian facilities, the security force around Base No. 4 is the weakest for no other reason than that the Hunters residing here themselves comprise a very strong combat force.
Hotel 20th floor, Room 2005.
This hotel suite is one of the three presidential suites, with its bathroom alone spanning an area of over eighty square ters; its gigantic bathtub allows guests to swim freely, while just across the bathroom’s wall lies an even larger open-air cantilevered swimming pool.
A burly man lay in the very center of the bathtub, the misty steam making his features appear sowhat blurry.
His muscles were extrely well developed, several silver-colored steel nails embedded in his shoulders and clavicle, with a dreadful suture scar diagonally traversing his entire chest.
A black crystalline collar that couldn’t be removed was fastened around his neck, on the side of which lay an inlaid red indicator light, each flash of the light producing a slight "tick" sound from the collar.
Across from the bath stood a man in a suit with a height reaching 1.9 ters. Compared to the man in the bathtub, he was slim despite his height, with long dark grey hair and an exquisite pair of gold wire-frad glasses perched upon his nose.
But his face was not delicate in the least—one-third of it was chanical, with an artificial eye whirling energetically in the socket.
"The institute has sent word; the PFDA prototype has passed the unmanned tests, and they hope you can be a test subject and participate in its first human trial," said the long-haired man.
"First human trial?" The muscular man in the bath sniffed coldly, "Isn’t there so fella called Sun Hang who’s quite formidable at the Heavenly City Institute? Why not get him to test it?"
"According to the latest intel, Sun Hang will participate in the assault mission but doesn’t need to wear the PFDA, which makes involving him in the testing pointless."
"What about ’Night Slayer’? Isn’t she touted as the ’Ace Hunter’ of Heavenly City?"
"I don’t know," the long-haired man replied blandly, "I don’t know if ’Night Slayer’ received a test invitation."
"What does the organization say?"
"No new orders which ans we should cooperate with Heavenly City for now... I think, when the chance arises for you to personally encounter the ’Ark,’ the organization will give you further instructions."
"Hmm." The burly man sneered and stood up in the bath, the water leftover on his body quickly turning into ascending steam—were soone to check the control panel beside the tub, they’d be startled to find that the water heater connected to the tub wasn’t operating at all.
This whole tub’s water had been heated entirely by the man’s "body temperature."
