Mr. Xu was stunned, and then he took a sharp breath.
He realized he had made a fatal mistake, but luckily, the rookie beside him noticed his error in ti and made the right judgnt.
Could this be what the guy ant by "good luck"?
By the looks of it, his luck seed genuinely good... and always had been.
Hopefully this good luck would last till the end... Mr. Xu silently thought to himself.
"You're right." Mr. Xu also started to back away slowly, all the way to the door.
"So what do we do?" Wang Zheng was almost frantic, "We can't stay here forever, right? I don't want to be stuck in here with these things; I can't stay a second longer!"
"I'll count to three, and you push the door right away. We'll dash out together and run towards the vehicle bay as fast as possible." Mr. Xu said.
"The vehicle bay?" Wang Zheng's eyes widened, "You an, we have to abandon the bunker?"
"We don't have a Hunter here, no one can handle this thing! What I need to do is get as detailed information back to the rear as possible and let as many people survive as possible!" Mr. Xu said.
"Fine... okay, I got it!" Wang Zheng nodded, gritting his teeth, "Count up!"
"Three... two... one, push!"
The door to the observation room was suddenly pushed open with a "bang," and the piercing alarm sounds flooded into the room, while bizarre faces began to erge on the ceiling, eyes opening, and they started screeching in a sharp, wailing noise.
"Run! Run fast!" Mr. Xu roared.
By now there was no need for him to control his volu; the two of them rushed out of the observation room nearly simultaneously and sprinted full speed toward the vehicle bay!
The strange faces, eyes wide open, followed suit — the walls and ceiling were their dium. They began by moving from the ceiling to the walls of the observation room, and then from the observation room out into the corridor, all the while screeching and closely pursuing the two n!
Wang Zheng now greatly regretted not putting more effort into physical training back in the army... Had he known this day would co, he would have trained himself relentlessly, never slacking even after retirent...
As the screeches behind them drew closer, Wang Zheng pushed himself to run faster, and faster!
The burning sensation in his lungs didn't even have a chance to rise up before being suppressed by the flood of adrenaline; at this mont, Wang Zheng had no other thought but one word: "Run!!!"
The rapid footsteps echoed in the corridor, chased by the bone-chilling shrieks and screams... The faces moving along the walls seed to encounter no resistance, catching up with the two sprinting figures in no ti.
Wang Zheng turned his head to glance at the wall and saw the strange face that was catching up, grinning, eyes squinted... The expression was like a mix of laughter and tears... Its features twisted in a bizarre manner, proportions broken, and the abstract outlines felt like a monster from a nightmare.
Just like those dream monsters, they stay vivid in your mory for decades, yet when you try to think carefully about what they looked like, you can't pinpoint exactly.
If Wang Zheng had to na these eerie creatures, he would undeniably call them "Nightmares."
Wang Zheng couldn't understand why he was in the mood to na these creatures at such a mont... Although his mind was blank, he could clearly sense ti slowing down, each step echoing as if it was a distant reverberation coming from across a valley.
He seed to have forgotten how to breathe, his heart and lungs had ceased their functions, blood stopped flowing, his body frozen in place.
Disjointed flashes of mory continued to flicker before his eyes. He could identify them as his own mories, but he completely lost the ability to understand their content... as if he were rely a spectator of his life, observing these mories rolling by like a slide show.
Is this... a life review?
It's said that only those on the brink of death see their life flash before their eyes... could it be that he... was dying?
With a jolt, Wang Zheng's senses returned to normal; the unbearable pressure in his lungs and sides reappeared, and a mix of tallic and spicy taste rushed up his throat, erging from his esophagus—gastric acid and blood from who-knows-where.
"Run! I must run!" Wang Zheng told himself through gritted teeth.
But in the next second, as his senses regained clarity, he suddenly felt sothing grab his ankle, causing him to lose balance abruptly and crash heavily to the ground!
He glanced down at his right foot and saw a strange face materializing on the floor, with his right foot right inside the mouth of this face!
"It's over!" Wang Zheng felt his heart freeze, followed by his body smashing hard against the floor.
Just as Wang Zheng thought he was dood, an enormous force suddenly pulled him from behind, dragging him forward, and the fabric of his clothes screeched against the concrete surface.
Wang Zheng realized that it was Mr. Xu who saved him, pulling him by the drag loop on his tactical vest, with a strength seemingly beyond that of a human.
"I... I can stand!" Wang Zheng clawed at the ground, and Mr. Xu swung his body forward, using the montum to help Wang Zheng scramble to his feet and run a good distance hand over foot.
Mr. Xu didn't stop either; while running, he drew his pistol and frantically fired at the pursuing faces — however, the bullets hardly even scratched these faces, just like hitting the original concrete wall surface.
As the faces "left" that section of the wall, the bullet dents remained, yet the faces remained perfectly intact.
Mr. Xu imdiately understood that these faces were those kinds of anomalies that couldn't be hard physically—at least not using the physical ans he possessed.
After emptying a magazine, Mr. Xu didn't load a new one, instead shoving the pistol into its holster and sprinting forward without looking back.
Eventually, the two reached the corridor's end and, once they passed through the heavy airtight door, they'd be in the vehicle bay outside the bunker.
Wang Zheng still intended to close the airtight door, but Mr. Xu yanked him away.
"Closing the door is useless! These things can pass through walls and ceilings just like they can through iron doors!" Mr. Xu shouted at Wang Zheng.
"Then what should I do?"
"Go start the vehicle! I'll try to hold them off!"
"Okay!" Without a second thought, Wang Zheng dashed towards the nearest amphibious motorbike.
Mr. Xu grabbed a dry powder extinguisher from the wall and sprayed it at the faces surging over the ceiling, walls, and floor.
It was useless.
Not only was it useless, but the white powder from the extinguisher beca the carriers for the faces — several faces ford in the powder mist and lunged at Mr. Xu, the extinguisher in hand.
"Damn!" Mr. Xu tossed the extinguisher aside, rolling on the ground to narrowly dodge the lunging faces.
The extinguisher passed through the powdery faces, dispersing them... but as the powder settled to the ground, a new face erged from the floor.
