Sun Hang didn't continue to stare at Shinkata Misaki, but looked into the distance—instead of needing a telescope, he simply issued a few commands in his mind, and Chira 17, thirty-seven kiloters away, would appear right before his eyes...
The only issue was that maintaining this "clairvoyant" state consud a considerable amount of mana.
Sun Hang glanced at his wristband; there were still more than four minutes left until the scheduled feigned attack.
He temporarily shut down his ability and stood quietly beside Shinkata Misaki, waiting as the ti approached the mont of the feigned assault, second by second.
"Can you see clearly?" Sun Hang asked.
"Very clearly... Ugh, those faces look absolutely unsettling," Shinkata Misaki mumbled.
"You'll get used to it."
"I even see a face being squeezed out of another face's mouth, and it's almost split in two, yet it's still fucking smiling... I consider myself brave, but looking at these things always makes feel uneasy," Shinkata Misaki complained.
"You should be glad their eyes are closed," Sun Hang said. "If they weren't, and stared back at you through the telescope, wouldn't you feel worse?"
"That would cost extra, no, more vacation ti," Shinkata Misaki said, "After this job, you have to give at least six months off, or this psychological shadow might never go away."
"You say that like you're making a prediction," Sun Hang couldn't help but tease.
"Pff, then I wish you two defeat Chira 17 and then walk into the wedding chapel. Happy nuptials, alright!" Shinkata Misaki said in a curse-like tone, "Just a prediction, who's afraid of that!"
But to her surprise, before Sun Hang could respond, Zhong Ling said, "Thanks."
Shinkata Misaki fell silent again.
"One minute left until the feigned attack begins," Sun Hang said, staring at his wristband, "Fifty-nine seconds."
"I'm watching, I'm watching," Shinkata Misaki said. "Don't bug ! Who starts a countdown from sixty anyway?"
Just as she spoke, the roar of engines and the sound of wings slicing through the air ca from behind. Sun Hang turned toward the sound and saw a formation of twelve aircraft speeding past overhead, heading west along the boundary of the restricted area.
Sun Hang: "Thirty seconds."
"Who's executing the first wave of the feigned attack? Those planes that just flew by?" Shinkata Misaki asked, "What's their target?"
"No, they're the second wave," Sun Hang said.
"Then who's the first wave?"
"You'll know soon enough... fifteen seconds," Sun Hang said, "A friendly reminder, rember to lower the brightness."
"Huh?"
"Ten seconds."
"Hey, I'm asking you, what does lowering the brightness an? Are you referring to being cautious about a nuclear explosion's light radiation?" Shinkata Misaki asked.
"Final three seconds."
A dazzling beam of light shot out from a valley on the west side of Chira 17, spanning dozens of kiloters in an instant, hitting the giant cocoon of Chira 17 precisely!
"Oh shit, my eyes!" Shinkata Misaki cursed imdiately.
"I did remind you to lower the brightness... any changes with Chira 17, or rather, those apparitions?"
"They seem to be lting... quickly... no, slowly."
"So which is it, fast or slow?"
"The speed is like putting a whole block of butter into boiling water," Shinkata Misaki said. "But for this level of laser exposure, the lting speed is actually quite slow... I once participated in a hunting operation using a similar large-scale laser weapon, and it lted a big hole in a half-ter-thick alloy wall in just 0.2 seconds... Compared to that, these grotesque faces are lting quite slowly."
Sun Hang stopped talking and reopened his "clairvoyant" ability.
The brightness of the irradiation area was very high, and without a specialized optical filter, his vision was almost a blinding white, seeing nothing at all... Sun Hang had to adjust the scope of his clairvoyant ability to so extent, barely allowing him to see the state of those apparitions in the irradiation area.
Just as Shinkata Misaki said, the apparitions were lting rapidly like wax statues under fla... but once the surface layer of apparitions lted away completely, a new layer was exposed underneath.
These apparitions weren't just one layer, aning that the number of apparitions on the surface of Chira 17 far exceeded the AI's estimated ten thousand.
The laser exposure lasted only fourteen seconds, yet even so, the high brightness left a white afterimage on Sun Hang's retinas, which only faded after blinking several tis.
Sun Hang counted; fourteen seconds of continuous exposure only lted away four layers of surface apparitions, beneath which more apparitions remained concealed.
At least from the last second of exposure, beneath the not completely lted fifth layer of apparitions, there was a sixth layer.
These layers were ridiculously thick.
"The laser exposure was ineffective," Sun Hang said in the communication channel. "Based on our observation results, there are many layers of apparitions on Chira 17's body surface, with at least six observed so far... is there a way to extend the laser exposure ti?"
"No, there isn't," Yang Qi replied in the communication channel. "Fourteen seconds is currently our limit; the laser emitter's core is already burned out and even caused a small explosion with personnel casualties... Increasing the exposure ti would require higher-grade cores and more complete cooling systems, which we can't quickly procure."
"During the final operation, how many seconds can the laser exposure be increased to?" Sun Hang asked.
"I asked the technicians responsible for this project, and they said they could probably push it to twenty-five seconds within the ti limit."
"Twenty-five seconds, probably not enough, pass on that plan," Sun Hang said.
"The bomber squad executing the mission has reached the target area; the second wave of the feigned attack will comnce in thirty seconds. In four seconds, they will launch six hundred laser-guided missiles at Chira 17, seventy-two of which are equipped with tactical nuclear warheads... they are the main act of the second wave, while the remaining five hundred missiles serve as decoy targets to draw Chira 17's firepower..."
Before Yang Qi could finish, the second wave of the feigned attack had already begun.
A dense barrage spread out like a giant net, enveloping Chira 17 from all directions.
In the next second, dozens of energy beams shot out from Chira 17, accurately detonating dozens of missiles among the barrage that looked no different from others. However, the explosion light from these missiles instantly engulfed a large area of airspace and all the missiles within it.
Yang Qi didn't even need to remind Sun Hang; he could tell all the missiles detonated by the energy beams were, without exception, those equipped with tactical nuclear warheads.
"Second wave of the feigned attack, failed..." Yang Qi's voice carried a hint of helplessness, "Chira 17's sensory ability is too acute... blending nuclear warheads with conventional missiles can't fool it at all..."
"I have a suggestion," Sun Hang said.
"What is it?"
"Stop trying to mix and disguise them; just equip all missiles with tactical nuclear warheads, wouldn't that work?"
"I'd love to, but the airforce base doesn't have that many tactical nuclear warheads in stock," Yang Qi sighed. "These seventy-two are all we have."
