"The Undead Race's barracks is like a graveyard." Sun Hang quipped casually, "If we don't solve the key issue, I bet these things will just keep erging endlessly."
"Then hurry up and solve it!" Wang Xiyi shouted, "I'll hold off these small fry for you. Try to get rid of those things on the monunt, or just smash the whole monunt if you have to."
"I'll give it a try." Sun Hang stepped in front of the monunt, observing the boiling shadows up close. He discovered that these shadows seed more like Spiritual Body Type Mysterious Creatures, without a physical entity. Or rather, even if they had a physical entity, it was akin to a smoke-like state.
The large hole he had shot open earlier was long gone.
Suddenly, two skeletal corpses crawled out from alongside the monunt's base, lunging at Sun Hang from behind. However, before they could touch Sun Hang's body, hundreds of fungal threads dragged them aside, quickly disassembling them into a pile of fragnts and casually tossing them into the abyss.
These revived corpses didn't seem particularly strong to Sun Hang. Even the weakest of Zhong Ling's ghastly cadavers could handle them easily... but from the tic strength they exhibited, their power seed to be greatly suppressed, originally at full strength, but now barely able to exert even a tenth.
"Is it you who is suppressing the power of these corpses?" Sun Hang looked at the monunt's body, murmuring to himself.
Of course, the monunt didn't answer Sun Hang's question, and the movents of the boiling shadows started becoming exaggerated. Their volu gradually began to swell, as if attempting to envelop the entire monunt.
As the shadows covered more of the monunt, a noticeable increase in power appeared among the corpses that crawled out from the graveyard. Zhong Ling's ghastly cadavers began suffering casualties — one cadaver got surrounded by a dozen corpses and was quickly torn to pieces, its spine shattered into dozens of segnts.
"Sun Hang! Sothing's not right!" Wang Xiyi shouted, "These guys seem to be getting stronger! How much longer do you need to resolve this? At this rate, I feel we might not hold out much longer!"
"I'm down to my last magazine!" Yan Yu'an shouted too. At this point, she had put down her faceplate, making it impossible to see her expression, but her tone revealed she was in an extrely anxious state.
Once her ammo ran out, she'd have to engage in hand-to-hand combat with the corpses. But with their strength increasing, even relying solely on the Willow Leaf Saber's armor capabilities, she would beco increasingly overwheld... At the current level, she could manage two or three corpses simultaneously, but if they grew any stronger, a one-on-one would beco very challenging.
If Sun Hang couldn't find a way to solve the problem, they might have no choice but to retreat.
Sun Hang reached out to touch the shadows, discovering that his fingers passed through them — they had no physical volu. Apart from the visual effect, the only evidence of their existence was the chilling sensation near them.
"If they can't be killed, then they have to be devoured." A mouth suddenly opened in Sun Hang's palm. As it inhaled, one of the shadows attached to the monunt was sucked in.
The mouth even chewed a couple of tis, savoring it.
At this mont, Yan Yu'an, having emptied her last magazine, rushed to within three ters of Sun Hang. Wielding her fist blade, she shredded a pursuing corpse, then turned, eting Sun Hang's gaze.
She found Sun Hang's eyes filled with desire, the blazing gaze seemingly capable of lting her armor and the clothes beneath it — for a mont, Yan Yu'an suspected that in Sun Hang's eyes she was stark naked, every detail of her body visible to him.
Her actions slowed for a beat, and a corpse seized the opportunity, darting forward, its sharp bone claws aiming for the armor joint at her neck!
Dozens of fungus threads wrapped in liquid tal twined around those bone claws. A crisp crackling sound followed, and the bone claws were ground into powder.
The owner of the bone claws t the sa fate of disassembly — restraint, disassembly, fall into the abyss.
Yan Yu'an's heart pounded wildly as she gasped for breath, looking back at Sun Hang — by now, his eyes had returned to clarity, as if the burning gaze she saw was only a fleeting illusion.
"It wasn't an illusion." Sun Hang seed to read Yan Yu'an's thoughts. "If I had to na the shadow I just swallowed, I'd call it 'Lust'."
"Lust? The Lust from the Seven Deadly Sins?" Yan Yu'an slightly steadied her breath and asked.
"The Seven Deadly Sins are from religious doctrine, which is essentially the purified condensation of human negative emotions," Sun Hang replied. "I now understand why the Baikal Remains have so many bizarre creatures."
"Why?" Wang Xiyi and Yan Yu'an asked almost simultaneously.
"When Lake Baikal City was destroyed by the Deathlight, besides the obsessions of Yamaguchi Masakatsu and those heroic spirits, the vast negative emotions of the countless victims within the city were also mixed in... Logically, these obsessions should have suppressed the negative emotions, but..."
"But what?" Wang Xiyi said while throwing a fireball, "Stop being mysterious! Just say it!"
"But there's a saying, 'No man is perfect.' Even heroes have flaws, have negative emotions, and have a dark side of their psyche... Though when they were alive, these things didn't matter, but now that they're dead, and their obsessions have turned into bizarre creatures, these things have beco their fatal weaknesses. The accumulated negative emotions seized the opportunity, rged with their inner darkness... You could say that all the negative emotions of Lake Baikal City's inhabitants beca their negative emotions," Sun Hang said.
"Hiss..." Yan Yu'an couldn't help but gasp.
As a commander of Dubhe Tower's ard forces, she was close to the power core and knew much more than the average person. She understood the dangers of human negative emotions. If these were spread across millions of people, perhaps they wouldn't be a threat, but concentrated on a few individuals...
Thinking this way, the appearance of the Baikal Remains seed only natural.
"Can you remove these negative emotions?" Yan Yu'an asked imdiately.
"The professionals for removing negative emotions didn't co with us," Sun Hang replied. This was ant for soone like Anna or Xue Yue, but now, one was sulking with Sun Hang, and the other stayed outside the Baikal Remains for safety. "I can only eliminate them by devouring the bizarre creatures, with the only drawback being that it's a bit slow."
"How slow is 'a bit slow'?" Seeing that Sun Hang had a solution, Yan Yu'an, initially exhausted, suddenly felt a surge of newfound energy from deep within her body.
She pressed a hidden button on the inside of her arm, two needles protruded inside the armor and pierced into her muscles, injecting two agents to relieve fatigue and strengthen muscle power into her system.
This was her last reserve.
"As long as I can buy Sun Hang ti, dying here will be worth it," Yan Yu'an thought to herself.
She had already prepared to face death.
"Dying won't be necessary," Sun Hang said while seemingly reading minds, "Digesting one shadow takes about half a minute. It shouldn't take more than half an hour to purify the entire monunt. Moreover, as the shadows beco fewer, the increasingly 'clean' self-awareness of the Baikal Remains should also regain control."
"You can read my thoughts?" Yan Yu'an suddenly realized, asking in surprise.
"No, just a guess," Sun Hang casually denied, "The way you're prepared to die heroically is practically leaking out of your armor seams."
