"Officer? Ravi?"
"How did you know it was ?" Ravi asked. He could understand Malik recognizing him by his scent or maybe his emotions but he had just searched for his number from the Davenport Community College website and called him.
"Secret." The gentle voice had a trace of amusent for a second before it beca serious, "I heard what happened in the news."
"Yes, it is terrible."
"The man."
"Dead."
"Burnt alive. It must have been very painful."
There was sothing in Malik’s voice that made Ravi feel guilty. An ordinary citizen will still feel bad when he hears of such matters, he does not want to spoil the other’s mood.
"Malik, I need a favor."
"Okay, what is it?"
"I would be very late. On your way ho, can you get dinner for Asher and give him the phone? I need to tell him sothing. It is okay if he stays over at yours tonight."
"No problem. But I don’t do favors for free."
Ravi sighed, he raised his baton to deter the man holding the cara who wanted to cross over the police line.
"How much?"
Malik laughed, "You just have to treat to dinner. Take it easy and don’t forget to eat."
Speaking of food, Ravi felt the hunger in his stomach, it was little sharp dice all over his stomach, causing pangs every second.
He was so hungry. He looked at the ti, it was a few minutes to four o’clock. This Arlen, since he ca, Ravi had been working overti, more and more, and he did not even take his lunch break. He gritted his teeth, if he caught this arsonist, he might just pour this anger on him.
"Ah! One more thing. Can you help collect a gas grill? It is on our way ho. You can use it, there is so corn before the porch, and you can have it for dinner. Win-win."
"Are you manipulating , Ravi?"
Ravi pursed his lips and looked at the bungalow with charred black marks on the wall.
"Is it working?"
"Not really." This ti, Malik laughed, the rich sound reaching through the phone to tingle at Ravi’s ears.
He had a nice laugh.
"Oh! And send your Polypay, Just give the money to the shopkeeper."
Ravi was half expecting Malik to refuse, they might have shared a drink but they were not so close as for him to send the other on his errands. He knew if the situation was turned around, he for sure would not go through the extra effort.
"You owe two als." The other said, before hanging up.
Ravi smiled and slipped his phone in his pocket.
Draco ca over with Kora, carrying a large box. Kora pressed a key and the boot of the Audi opened up.
"Neat." Draco praised, looking like he wanted to snatch the key and drive the sleek car. He placed the box in.
"Officer Klenn, are you leaving now?" Lisa asked and Kora nodded.
"Yes. My speculation has been proved. Comparing the way the corpse is charred and the house is, there is a discrepancy. They were burning at two different temperatures. This is surely the work of an arsonist. And he might still be here. Good luck!" She entered her car and drove off, the speed so fast that they did not see the shadows of the car in seconds.
"Still here!" Lisa grabbed hold of Ravi’s arm, warily looking around.
Ravi also looked around, and tens of people surrounded the ho. As for taxis, there were more than ten taxis parked in the neighborhood as it was ti for people to get off work.
The victim this ti lived alone, a man in his late sixties. His neighbors had been the ones to call in the fire, according to the people they had asked. The man, John Fonda was quiet, a retired lawyer who did not bother anyone and was loved by his neighbors.
"Is this killing random?" Her voice was more subdued. If the first and second ti had not got to her, this third killing set a cold shiver down her spine.
"From night to evening, to afternoon, their courage is increasing."
"Shouldn’t we leave this to the Heroes Association? They have trackers, right?"
Draco rolled his eyes, "There are less than ten trackers in Avalon and you want the Heroes Association to lend to Davenport. I doubt they heard about this town."
"Don’t fight. There are caras on you. If you want to quarrel, go behind that house." Ravi said coldly. He could understand the pressure on Arlen, right now. The last thing that he wanted was for these two knuckleheads to cause even more trouble for Arlen.
Soon, said person ca out of the house with Sarah, and the two of them walked down to the three of them.
"What have you found out?"
"The victim’s na is John Fonda. 62 years old. He was a popular lawyer when he was younger and so of his cases ca out in the local newspaper. He was a bachelor and he had no children. He had a good relationship with his neighbors but a lot of people said that he was a cutthroat lawyer when he was younger." Lisa said and Arlen nodded.
"Officer Brown and Officer Johnson, you would go and collect the surveillance around this house. Here! Here and There. They are the places to get the best view of the house." His blue eyes were so focused and cold, it made him look even more handso.
It turns out what they said is true, n tend to look even more handso when they are serious at work.
"Officer West, you would change the thod of investigation. Forget the children, focus on the father-in-law, Mary’s father, and this lawyer. I want to know what they have in common. Even if they visited a supermarket together, I want to know. Dig as much as you, their finances, everything, any organization that does not grant you access, you can report to ." He paused and his voice beca gentler, "You can do it, right?"
Ravi nodded. His voice when he was all authoritative like this, it sounded pretty good.
