Sage who had run inside soon ca out and headed back to the Mango tree he was carefully harvesting. He looked at his basket and saw two mangoes
goes missing then looked at Malik’s guilty hands.
His smoothie would be smaller than everyone else.
"That would not be a good idea." Malik’s gentle voice suddenly sounded in the quiet backyard.
Ravi looked at Malik, "What wouldn’t be a good idea?" He asked as he browsed through his phone. The Davenport Police Bureau had a group chat in which they had been instructed severally not to share details of the investigation. As A result, soone had created another group without the Police Chief.
The group was still active for years and while other mbers of the police force had been added, the leaders like the Captain and Sergeants were not on it. Except for Tom, everyone agreed he was the coolest Sergeant.’
Ravi also wondered why he was still on the chat, given that he had never replied to any of their ssages.
’Finally, this ABI can pack their things and leave our town. They are so fucking rude, looking down on us.’
’Did they crack it? Find their imaginary vigilante that they were looking for.’
’Like hell. What vigilante, I bet they cooked it up. Would do anything to close cases and get promoted.’
’Officer McNill, are you still talking about the ABI or yourself?"
Ravi’s lips twitched. Lisa had no filter.
"The newbie suddenly had wings.’ Ca Officer’s McNill’s imdiate response.
"Well, if you catch the Phantom. You would also grow wings. It is only natural. Heard the Chief is getting us a new fridge, and a nu in the Cafeteria. Team 1 for the win.’ Draco replied, causing Ravi to raise an eyebrow a little, he had no idea that Draco could get up before 7. It was 6;32 am.
"If I were you, I would not touch that Cafeteria al with a stick. Heard that your officer who got caught up in the ss has not yet shown up. Scared off. In my ti...."
Ravi did not continue to reply as he heard Malik’s voice.
"I did not hear you clearly. What did you say?"
"Are you going to work today? Or milking the sick days, you could do it for a week." Malik said.
Ravi smiled, "Well, so of us are quite excited to see our boyfriends."
Asher covered his face with his left hand and carried his basket far into the orchards.
Malik had to fight the laughter but he could not help it when Ravi burst out laughing, he soon followed.
"Ash was so embarrassed that he ran away."
Ravi chuckled, "Couldn’t help it. I am in a bragging mood."
Malik smiled, "Well, so of us have fucked our boyfriends, and so of us, not so much. You know how to do it, right? I could get Reese to send you the image for..."
"Malik!"
Malik chuckled.
"Besides if I see that girl again and she begins her rant, I am not sure what I would do." Ravi said honestly, she was worse than a parrot. He could not go through that ordeal again, "We would never have this conversation again but I know to do it. Don’t worry."
Malik was quiet for a second and then laughed. It was not a chuckle or a smile but full-blown laughter. It was a very rare sight and it made Ravi, who was about to grit his teeth, smile.
"Enough."
Malik soon stopped laughing, "Fine. We shall not discuss your sexual life or lack thereof. How about schools? The private academy, Bayside Academy?"
"Yes. He prefers that one, I do too. He has been out of school for a while so a smaller school would be better."
"That is good. I have found a very good child psychologist in Alstria too. You know he..."
"En." Ravi nodded, "Just see everything you have on her. She can be trusted right?"
"Yes. I combed through her mind. She is a genuine type who cares deeply for her patients. Ravi, you do know that your guardianship of Asher is not legal and it would raise flags when he visits a psychologist."
Ravi dropped his phone in his pocket, hoping that there was so wine to accompany this conversation. He sighed.
He could feel Malik’s gaze on him. The man might be blind but his gaze could definitely be felt clearly.
He looked at Asher who had moved from mango to orange, "Malik. I want to hire you."
Malik smiled, "Details of his parents or any living relatives?"
He was scarily perceptive, Ravi nodded, "What is the paynt for this kind of task?"
"You still owe wine from the last task."
"Didn’t you write it off?"
Malik crossed his leg as he leaned back into the hemlock, "I would but I can recall soone asking to transfer 32 dollars that he paid for the electricity bill."
"Surely you did not expect Sage and Lana to stay in darkness."
"Your stinginess should be studied."
"Stingy, you got 50 million dollars from Kadia."
’; You said you did not want the money."
"I didn’t."
"So give my wine."
"Fine."
"Fine!"
There was a mont of silence before the two of them chuckled.
"That was particularly childish of ." Malik said, "Keep the wine for . I would need it soday. Anouk loves vintage wine and I have a feeling, the wine you want to give is very old."
"En. So what do you want for paynt? Money."
"Information," Malik replied, his tone was calm and even.
"I am not letting you into my mind."
"Not that. When you t , you wanted to kill and then you changed your mind. Did soone ask you not to kill ? Who was it and Why?" His voice was a little solemn.
This was the second ti Malik had asked him the question. This was also the third ti he was ntioning this. Leveraging this as a deal. In return for a favor.
"Malik?" Ravi did not know about incarnations but he knew that they had no mory. What would happen if an incarnation finds out he is a piece of soul sent on a mission? Would his psyche be able to comprehend that this world is just a little, little, low-level star in the cycle of things? That they were people who could destroy this entire planet with a single thought and that he was such a person.
What would happen to his relationships here? Would he still complete his missions if he had an idea of who he is? Or even worse, what if he was sent here for so kind of tribulation?
This was forbidden knowledge.
"Are you afraid of the person who asked you not to kill ? Or are you under so kind of constraint?" Malik pushed.
Ravi was quiet. He had to admit he was a little afraid of Alya and her reaction if he should tell Malik. The thing with Netherworld Officials is that if you offend them, death is not a release. Death was hell.
"So yes to the two questions. Forget I asked."
"Are you upset?" Ravi asked.
"Not really. I just hate when things are out of my control."
"Malik, I am not your enemy," Ravi said. He truly wasn’t. He might have disliked incarnations and Malik might act like he is insane at tis but he genuinely cared for him. Alya’s request or not. If need be, he would protect him with everything that he has.
"I know. I know you are worried about , I can feel it. But you, and whoever it is that told you not to kill seriously underestimate , Ravi, I would find out. I would find out everything and then...I would punish them for daring to intervene in my life or death." His voice was quiet but Ravi instantly sat up.
"Malik..."
"I am crazy. I know. But the thought of soone daring to dictate whether I live or die makes pissed off. It is...unforgivable. Sounds crazy, I know. But still, I feel like this person is slapping and disrespecting ."
Ravi swallowed, "I am sure that it is not like that. You are misunderstanding..."
"So the person is close to you. A friend. No, an ex?"
"Malik!"
"I am not in your head. You were just too quick to defend the person and you sound genuinely worried for this person which is so strange. You are stronger than , I can feel it, this person is stronger than you, so why would you be afraid that I can hurt this person?" Malik’s voice was curious and those empty green eyes had opened again and were fixed on him.
Ravi stood up, "Malik, what do you want to have for breakfast? Let’s leave this hypothetical conversation. Anything you want to eat, I would make it for you. Okay." With this rate, Malik would deduce everything and he had not even said a single word.
"Anything I want to eat?"
Ravi nodded, "I would teleport to the Ocean and get fresh fish if that is what you want."
"That."
"Eh?"
"I miss that grilled fish that we ate."
"That is not really breakfast...fine. Grilled fish it is." He almost felt like he was coaxing a child.
