The mont he had that thought, he shivered and reached to hold Ravi. An even more scary thought soon entered his mind.

"There is no shortcut when it cos to controlling abilities." His mother had told him.

"How could we miss that? I have to go right now. Thank you, professor." He turned and rushed out of the door.

Ravi blinked, turning to look at Malik who had a similar bewildered expression for a second.

Arlen rushed back in, reached out to Ravi’s hand, grabbed him tightly, and ran out again.

"What is it? What happened?" Ravi asked as he took the keys from Arlen. Who knows whether in his excitent he would drive them into a ditch?

Arlen sat down, his eyes glowing, "We did not check previous cases."

Ravi frowned, "We did. Lisa and I went down to the mortuary to check whether there had been cases like this in prior years. There were a lot of unclaid, Jane does but none that followed this modus operandi."

M.O., Korra had called it. The thod of operation used by the killer refers to the location, and weapon, they pick the victims, how they seduce them, and how they kill them.

"In Davenport. There is sothing my mother always reminded of whenever I wanted to escape training. There is no shortcut when it cos to controlling abilities. So many victims, Ravi, I think these killers had had a lot of ti to perfect their craft in another place."

Ravi understood what he was saying imdiately, "So you want us to look for Jane Does who had red roses in the entire country? That would be a very long ti."

"I believe I know who to contact to make it shorter. And I don’t think that the red rose is his signature. I feel like it is just a distraction."

Signature. The extra actions that a killer takes. It tells the investigators a little more about the underlying psychology of the killer, his fantasies, his deep-seated needs, and his emotions. A killer can change his thod of operation, he could start killing on a quicker schedule, they might even change the class of victims but their signature remains the sa. The sa sick underlying needs never change.

Ravi had been paying more attention.

"I think he needs them to die in public, where everyone is. It was how the professor explained it and I recalled the expressions on the victim’s face." Arlen faced Ravi fully, "He needs them to feel abandoned by the world. We would check won who were stabbed or slashed and bled to death in public places. They should have drugs in their system."

"That is a wide net but we will catch him." He drove steadily to the office and before entering, he turned to look at Arlen who smiled at him.

"Arlen, are you okay?"

Arlen nodded. He could feel like they were very close. That feeling of the mist in front of him had given way to a path to follow.

Compared to other days, today was even more busy. The night team was present, attending to those who ca to the police station for different reasons, leaving Team 1 to completely focus on the investigation of the killer.

If it was before, the reporters should have surrounded the police bureau or at least been reporting about the killings and given the killer so ego-boosting na but everything was quiet and it could all be attributed to the man sitting in his office answering a call with a frown on his face.

"You ca in with the Captain," Lisa whispered with a mischievous grin on her face.

Ravi looked at her and similar worries returned about her boyfriend.

"You don’t need to look like that. I have no intention to tell anyone. Let’s go. We have to reach downtown today. We have many people to visit. The spicy crayfish joint, the hotpot, and the barbecued ta joint." As she spoke, her stomach rumbled and her cheeks turned red.

"We are going to investigate and not to have lunch."

"I know. I know."

The two of them passed the corridor that was filled with Mary Taylor’s workers who Sarah was interviewing again.

The two of them entered the car and Ravi offered to drive.

"That is unlike. Love does make people more hardworking it seems." Lisa quipped and she chuckled.

Ravi frowned, "Lisa? About relationships. If your partner has caras and audio recorders and they are listening to you 24/7, what should you do?" He checked his head forward as he drove steadily.

Lisa held her hand to her lips in shock, "Ravi. Even If he is the Captain. That is not okay. That....You can not allow that, even if he is insecure, he should seek help from a professional. What kind of...I did not think that the Captain.."

"It is not Arlen. Just a friend, I know."

"Then you should tell this friend to leave this relationship. Ravi, I grew up in the streets. My relationship with this kind of jealous, controlling, paranoid person does not end well. Trust ."

Ravi turned to look at her, "You are right."

Lisa narrowed her eyes to look at him, "If it is not you, then which friend are you talking about? I know for a fact that you don’t have any other friends."

"That is rude. I have made so friends."

Lisa’s face had no single belief on it and she watched him suspiciously for a second before she said, "Should we write up a restraining order just in case? Or maybe visit him and scare him just the tiniest bit." She raised her fingers to show how small the scare would be.

"You know, you never told about your boyfriend. Where did you guys et? When? How much do you know about him?"

Lisa chuckled, "What’s up with you? Why do you want to start acting like so big bro? Our first eting was magical. I will tell you after the case. We are here, so get down Mr. Investigator Ravi."
