Now reading: Chapter 54: Making breakfast, then goosebumps from I Am Tired Of Being A Hero, a Yaoi novel by DarkScholars.

Ravi did not drink last night; not even one single drop and yet he woke up as if he was buzzed with joy. His head was throbbing, not that kind of headache that accompanied a night where he drank till he passed out, it was as if there was a pleasant hum in his head that made him want to sway and twirl to an invisible music.

He took out his uniform and began to iron it before heading to the bathroom to freshen up.

It was early in the morning, just a few minutes past six o’clock but he was already bustling with energy.

The cold water ran down his hair, cascading down his shoulders. What should he make this morning, Congee, or rice? It had been a while since he had eaten egg-fried rice for breakfast. Since the pasta finished yesterday night, what should he make the little child for lunch, sothing healthy and filling?

It would be great if the cat does not turn out to be like Arlen, who is picky with his al. Which kind of adult does not eat vegetables? If it was in the orphanage and you said sothing like that, you should also forget about food for the rest of the day.

His lips twitched. But soone as beautiful as Arlen would probably not stay in the orphanage for long. Friendly, sweet children were adopted easily, unlike him, Mother always had one piece of advice for him. You should smile more, Ravi. Parents would like you if you smile.

He did, well he tried too. It did not work. But it was good like that, when he died on Earth, there was no one to mourn him. A silver lining.

That unknown song continued to play in his head as he wore the white t-shirt over the blue trousers, took the police uniform jacket and his phone, and headed downstairs to the kitchen.

The grapes and jujubes that he left overnight at the kitchen counter were already inside the fridge, Ravi smiled.

The child should still be sleeping. He spread his senses a little bit around the house and sure enough, he was sleeping comfortably on the bed.

Ravi raised his hand and the air ripple created a light, transparent barrier across the room.

He switched on the coffee machine, he would be taking the coffee to go so he did not pay it much mind.

Opening the fridge again, Zane bit his lips. He had thrown away the two-day-old rice into the garden to decompose. Making new rice was no problem but a day-old rice was always the best for fried rice.

He poured two cups of washed rice into the rice cooker, reduced the water a little bit, and switched it on.

Then he took out three eggs and started to beat them into a bowl, his eyes widened with appreciation. This was the advantage of buying fresh eggs from the market. The egg yolk was firm and golden yellow, giving a beautiful contrast to the clear egg white.

He sliced so ginger, garlic, green onions, and chili into thin flakes. Thinking a bit, he reduced the amount of the chili. If sothing happens...

A phone. There was no phone in the house for the child to call him. He needed to give a house phone. Stopping his cooking process for a few seconds, Ravi pinned it to his ho screen. It didn’t need to be an expensive one but it had to be reliable with a strong battery.

Ravi scooped out the rice and touched the bowl, making it cool down.

He took out the large wok in the last cupboard and cleaned it. The fried rice was a very quick thing to make when your ingredients were prepped. He scrambled the eggs with a bit of salt on the pan, not allowing it to finish cooking before he transferred it to another bowl. He then stir-fried the vegetable for a minute and set it aside.

Then he added a little more oil, ginger, and garlic. He placed the cooled rice in the pot and he began to fry properly, until each grain was separated.

It was at this mont that he was always tense, looking again to make sure that it had been fried well before he added back the scrambled egg and the diced vegetables. He then poured the already-prepared sauce over the rice and continued to mix it well.

Sprinkling it with green onions and chill, he mixed it for thirty more seconds before switching on the gas.

He had not used all the rice that he cooked earlier for the fried rice. He stared at it for two seconds before deciding on what to make. He did not want to be late so it had to be really easy.

He opened the freezer and took out the container of the chicken broth. It was frozen solid so Ravi had to manipulate it for it to thaw. On a good day, he would happily let it sit on a bowl in a kitchen counter when he had fruits in the garden or watch movies in the living room but he did not have the luxury today.

As the broth ca to a simring boil, Ravi went outside to cut so more green onions and take a little ginger.

By the ti he returned the broth was boiling over, and he reduced the heat to a dium-low. Added soy sauce, so sesa oil, grated ginger, so paprika paste, and a tablespoon of cornstarch.

As the liquid boiled, he began to beat the eggs. Oh! The ribbons. Ravi opened three cupboards before he found the chopsticks, he began slowly pouring the beaten eggs into the soup while stirring gently with the chopsticks, creating those beautiful silky egg ribbons. He sat and continued to stir gently for a minute before he switched off the stove.

He took out a stone and changed it to a little pen, another to a paper.

Lunch.

Was it too simple?

Make sure you eat when hungry.

After that, he dished his own al and carried it to the living room. He had not had ti to watch the news since the arrest happened.

"The Sniper acknowledged that he is the one who made the arrest of the three..."

"Ring...Ring..."

He really needed to change this Hello Kitty ringtone that Lisa put in his phone.

"Hello."

"Ravi, you are feeling better right now, you need to co to work now. It is so terrible." Her voice was hoarse, almost on the verge of tears.

"What happened?" In contrast, Ravi’s voice was scarily calm.

"There was a fire..."

The calm shattered, "The Captain, Is Arlen alright?" Ravi got to his feet, almost knocking his place of rice in the process.

There was a pause, "Aren’t you ant to ask about ? Your partner?"

"Lisa?"

"Everyone is fine. It did not happen here, it happened downtown, near the Bristol grills place."

"Oh!" Ravi returned to his food. The plate was very vibrant with the dark rice, the red carrots, and the yellow egg. The delicious aroma tickled his nose making him smile, he tried it and nodded.

Delicious. He would like it a bit more spicy, with shrimp or crab but this was not bad, it was simple and delicious.

"Ravi! Ravi! Are you listening to ?"

"Ravi was not listening to her at all, "fire, Downtown. I understand. I will be there very soon. I have to go," He switched off the phone and continued to calmly eat his al.

When he was done, he took the dish to the sink.

7:20 a.m

Making his coffee, he put a label on the coffee machine, Don’t touch.

He did not want to know the consequences of coffee on a child or the consequences of harboring a fugitive when he took said child to the hospital.

He wore his jacket and buttoned, he placed the stun gun properly and belted his trousers. Taking his cup of coffee, Ravi calmly and with a hint of excitent, not exactly for the fire, walked out of the gate.

The mont he walked out of the gate. He stopped, a frown instantly lacing his features.

Strong. Very strong.

There were three people in the house opposite him and their aura was the strongest that Ravi had seen since he ca into this world.

Opposite his house. Why? Were they inviting or maybe they were from the Hero Association here to check up on the nest? That did not seem lightly, he did not like it.

He did not like this one bit.

There were people that had always claid to be psychic in his old Earth that did not have a lick of Cosmic energy. They claid that they could tell when sothing was about to happen. They could sense it, per se, a negative aura, an aura that did not attune to their own.

Ravi always thought they were just speaking batshit but now, there might be a little sense to their words.

There was a layer of goosebumps on his skin as he looked at the yellow house opposite his with its gate completely torn apart.
