When it cos to restaurants, there are few things that should be kept in mind. If it is secluded and yet crowded, then it is the one.
Ravi’s lunch box of braised pork rice was still in the office but the aroma from the restaurant was more than amazing. He swallowed, the only thing Ravi might like more than his cooking is other people’s cooking.
"Officers, you are right on ti. A table just cleared up." A middle aged man with a handkerchief around his head said. He looked in his later forties and was tattooed from the tip of his fingers to the blade of his shoulders.
"Adeben! This ti I ca with my friends. Better treat us well." Lisa sauntered in as if she owned the place.
"Arjun. It is Lisa. Little Lisa is here. Hopefully with money." The man behind the counter laughed along with so of those eating.
Lisa gritted her teeth, "Don’t mind him."
Sarah smiled, "You ca here a lot as a child?"
Lisa nodded, "I did not dash or dine. I would help them by sweeping the front of the restaurant. I have been a model citizen since I was a child."
"Model citizen, my foot." The man laughed, his pearly white gleaming as he brought a tray filled with water.
"Adeben!" Lisa called out, an embarrassed expression on her face.
Ravi looked at her. His partner was strong, he should probably tell her that one of these days. Her father was a drug addict who made her childhood miserable and her mother fell sick multiple tis. Lisa had to raise herself, she had chosen the Police College as if it was the only school that offered a scholarship and had transferred to the Davenport Police Bureau because she wanted to be closer to her mother.
She could be very annoying at tis but whenever Ravi recalled her past, she had only appreciation for her.
See how bubbly and happy she is, that ans that Asher could be like this soday, right? Or like Arlen, best he becos as sunny as Arlen.
Why was he thinking about him right now?
"Ravi, what do you want to eat?" Lisa asked when pointing at the nu to Abeden. She then took a deep breath and shouted, "One pitcher of beer as well."
Abeden laughed, "You have not stopped doing that. Fine, one pitcher of beer for the young lady."
Sarah was worried and she leaned over, "Is that okay? Technically we are not done for the day."
"It is only one pitcher and we can all share it. Pretty please. Dealing with those teenagers I have a headache."
"If you have a headache, have so paracetamol. Not a pitcher of beer." Ravi snidely added from where he was staying.
Lisa rolled her eyes, "Just order, ba."
Ravi ordered and took out his phone as he waited for their food.
"Should we talk about what we think so far about the case?" Sarah prompted after the table had been quiet for a minute or two.
"Not at all. I have every desire to enjoy my food. Sarah, tell us how Susan is doing. I heard you say that she is the top student in Mathematics."
Ravi did not wonder much about his parents. It has been too long to care but it was in monts like this, seeing Sarah’s face soften as she took out her phone to show them so pictures, that he thought about them.
Were they excited about his birth at least? The Mother in the Orphanage told the children that their parents had died in a way of comfort and to allow them to bond more easily with their adoptive parents.
Ravi still carried her heart. If they had not died, would they be like this, with bright eyes, excited to tell their friends about him? Maybe it was better that they were dead, Every Sentinel’s reincarnation died very early, at least they would not mourn their child who died far too early.
"She finished 90 questions in 30 minutes," Ravi asked, not bothering to hide the skepticism in his voice.
Sarah smiled and nodded, "She is very smart."
She might be smart but there was a huge possibility that Sarah was exaggerating. It seems like parents also tended to exaggerate.
His lunch ca, and Abeden made two trips to carry the trays to their table. He did not bring the pitcher of beer but had brought a non-alcoholic malt drink for Lisa.
"You are on the clock. When you are done with work, we will treat you with free beer on the house."
Ravi looked at the tray in front of him. He first opened the lotus leaf and the rich aroma and steam of the chicken escaped. The chicken was a deep red color and its skin glowed with oil.
He took a bite. Roasting at in a layer like a lotus or banana leaves allowed the spices and aromatics to be locked into the at. The chicken skin was crispy and the at was tender and juicy with the right amount of spices. The second kind of chicken that he had ordered was the teriyaki chicken.
Ravi had not had it before so he was quite interested in it. Unlike the red roasted chicken, the teriyaki chicken was fried to a golden brown and covered with a reddish brown sauce. He bit into it tentatively and his eyes widened, the chicken was very tender and a little sweet. Was that honey?
He could tell that Arlen would like it. He blinked, stop thinking about him. He finished off the chicken clean.
Since he ordered so fried foods, Ravi had opted for a final light al to top it off.
He blew on the dumpling and bit into the thin but tough translucent skin. His mouth was filled with the fresh delicate taste of mackerel and vegetables. He dipped it into the light garlic and sesa oil sauce and tried it.
When it cos to restaurants, there are few things that should be kept in mind. If it is secluded and yet crowded, then it is the one.
It was so delicious.
