"If there’s a clear purpose, it’s actually fine. I’m just worried there isn’t one, and it’s just for his own amusent. That kind of randomness is way more troubleso."
Lord Zhu opened his mouth, but didn’t dare say there wasn’t. With what he knew, there really were those kinds of weirdos among the ghosts.
Over on Wen Yan’s side, he was having tea and chatting with Lord Zhu. After a short while, his phone rang. Glancing at it, he saw it was actually Cai Heizi calling.
"My dearest Minister, how do you have ti to call ? So, what are your orders?"
Cai Qidong moved the phone a bit further away, checking again to make sure he hadn’t called the wrong number.
It clearly sounded like a suck-up, but coming out of Wen Yan’s mouth, it sohow had that extra sarcastic bite to it.
"Gotta ask you to run a little work trip for ."
"You guys finished your talk?"
"We finished. Based on all the intel we have, plus we tried testing Nan Yuncai."
He ntioned when he was suppressed beneath the idol, he got especially agitated—but even he didn’t know why.
The current keywords we have are: Netherworld, idol, misfortune.
Seriously, there’s no one better for this than you.
Let’s talk face-to-face when you’re back. So stuff shouldn’t be said over the phone, but trust —you’ll be satisfied."
"Huh?" Wen Yan was a little surprised; he never pegged Cai Qidong as the type to say sothing like that. That really piqued his curiosity.
He said goodbye to Lord Zhu. This ti, instead of asking Feng Wei to guide him, he used the Rakshasa Ghost Market as a shortcut. If you’re going to Yu State, it’s faster this way—there’s a Rakshasa Ghost Market entrance in Yu State.
Half an hour later, he was riding in a Scorching Sun Departnt vehicle, with Feng Yao driving him out of Yu State City. An hour on the road and they still didn’t stop.
"Where the hell are we going?"
"To another base. Not suitable for a base in the city."
When they reached the wild mountains, after another hour or so of driving, they finally saw an entrance in the mountainside.
Going in, Feng Yao escorted him personally. There were three layers of security checks, then a ride down in an elevator. Underground at last, he finally t Cai Qidong.
Cai Qidong didn’t waste any ti and took him straight to a room.
He pointed at the things laid out on two tables.
"As long as you handle this job, both of these things are yours. How’s that? Satisfied?"
Wen Yan stared at the stuff on the tables, totally confused. He had no damn clue what these were.
They looked like two armored turtleshells made out of iron.
"What are these?"
"Low-yield, portable special mushroom bombs. Weren’t you begging for a Big Killer? Well, this is the strongest one you can actually carry. If this doesn’t satisfy you, then I swear there’s nothing else we can offer right now."
Wen Yan couldn’t help but take two steps back, his hair practically standing on end.
"Holy shit!"
Cai Qidong burst out laughing, looking all smug. He’d been waiting ages for this exact reaction.
"And you said you weren’t just acting tough! You were insisting on a Big Killer, right?
I got you the biggest damn Big Killer available. It’s got plenty of juice.
Hundred-thousand-ton yield, and even together, the two only weigh about a hundred pounds.
With your skills, you can definitely carry them off.
These were rushed out specifically for the Nether Soul Realm.
The firing chanism was tricky—they might not launch properly, so only a person can carry them in.
chanical detonation, with a tir built in.
Not so practical anywhere else, but in the Netherworld, nobody gives a damn.
The only downside is, once you’ve set them up, you have to haul ass out of there. It’s kinda risky."
"You call that ’kinda risky’?"
"Honestly, it’s not as dangerous as you think. You set the tir, run outside the blast radius, and it’s nothing. The worst part is the radiation and fallout. When it goes boom, the actual blast is just so-so."
"..."
"Relax, these things are super safe. They’re actually hard to set off—smash it with a hamr, break it, still won’t blow."
"..."
"Don’t tell you’re chickening out? Forget it, then. I actually prepped so other weapons too. Decent power. The departnt’s been developing all sorts of stuff just for ghosts."
"What’ve you got?"
Cai Qidong smiled. "Co with ."
Then he said to the others in the room,
"Seal those two up safely."
"Hold up." Wen Yan held out his hand.
He walked over to those two lumps of iron, reached out, and gently petted them—goosebumps erupted all over his skin.
These two iron lumps had no tailfins, didn’t look like missiles; no wonder he didn’t recognize them at first glance.
But the more he looked, the more he liked them. His heart was pounding like crazy.
This close to a Big Killer, even knowing they’re supposedly safe, his scalp still tingled.
And now, he actually had the chance to deploy these bombs with his own hands.
"Co on, I’ll show you the other stuff."
"Nah, just these two are good. I’ll take the mission."
Wen Yan gritted his teeth and accepted the job. He’d already been planning to go anyway.
Soone’s trying to send the Jinx to his ho—like hell he’d just let that slide.
This needed to be taken care of no matter what, and now that he had a chance to play with mushroom bombs himself, there was no way he was passing it up.
He had no idea what deals had gone down higher up to allow for this.
But since they’d green-lit it, it had to be a must-do.
Wen Yan turned and left. Cai Qidong was a little shocked—Wen Yan actually had the guts.
This thing is standard: the range is actually shorter than the effective kill zone.
Using it is super dangerous.
He really didn’t approve of this plan.
Didn’t expect Wen Yan to actually want it.
"Strictly speaking, these are only half-finished. Lots of flaws."
"Don’t care. I’m taking them."
"Combined, they’re almost a hundred pounds."
"I’ve got my battle horse. I don’t have to carry them myself."
"Then why are you still going to check out the other stuff?"
"You said there’s other gear, right? Let see it all. If there’s anything useful, I’ll take it. However much I can carry, I’ll bring."
"You really want more?"
"Who knows what’ll co up? I’ll take as much as I can—just let look."
Cai Qidong was speechless. This guy really isn’t afraid of death.
"There’s one more question: can normal things even be killed by the blast?"
"You don’t need to worry about that. These have been extensively field-tested by the Three Mountains and Five Ridges and Scorching Sun Departnt. Absolutely equal opportunity destruction. That is the last thing you need to worry about."
