Vera Wave eyed the bottle on the table with hesitation.
"It’s painkillers," Kris Cooper explained.
He... he actually went to buy her dicine?!
Vera sat upright. "Boss, thank you very much!"
As she reached for the cup, Kris swiftly moved it, evading her hand. He brought the cup to his own lips to test the water’s temperature. Confirming it was just right, he then held it to her lips.
Vera took a sip of water as he held the cup. Then, he pinched a pill and placed it in her mouth.
After ensuring she had swallowed the pill and giving her a couple more sips of water, he put down the cup and gently settled her back onto the pillow.
Kris turned off the main light and left the bedroom again, closing the door behind him.
Vera listened intently but didn’t hear him leaving.
What is he up to?
While she was still wondering, the bedroom door was pushed open again.
Kris reappeared. His muscular upper body was bare except for a silver chain adorned with two rings, and his waist was wrapped in her bath towel. It was clear he had just taken a shower.
He’d taken a shower and was still in her room... Was he really not going to leave her alone?!
Any gratitude Vera had felt towards Kris for buying her dicine was now completely replaced by anger. She sat bolt upright.
"Kris Cooper, can’t you be a little less excessive? Are you going to take advantage of even in this state?!"
That heartless bastard! Was he really that desperate?!
Closing the door, Kris frowned and walked to the bedside. He pulled back the blanket on her side of the small bed, lay down, and then, with a swift motion, pulled her into his embrace.
"Let go!" Vera struggled angrily, but the man held her arms and pinned her legs, leaving her immobile. Furious yet powerless, she seethed, "Kris Cooper, I’m warning you! If you dare touch tonight, I..."
"What will you do?"
"I..." Vera gritted her teeth, unable to co up with a convincing threat. Finally, she managed to choke out, "I’ll never let you get away with this!"
No sooner had she spoken than the man’s face drew closer, and his lips brushed a kiss onto her bare shoulder.
His arm around her tightened. A pleasant baritone sounded softly by her ear, laced with a roguish, teasing quality and what seed like a hint of a smile.
"Then don’t let it end!"
Afterward, he didn’t make any further moves.
Vera waited with bated breath for a while, but the man remained still.
Asleep?
She quietly turned her head to look at Kris behind her. His long lashes were lowered, and in the dim glow of the night light, his features appeared deep-set and exquisite. A roguish curve played on his lips.
She had only wanted to see if he was sleeping, yet his face seed to hold a magic that made her unable to look away.
Why did that face give her such an inexplicable sense of familiarity and closeness?!
As if compelled by an unseen force, her right hand unwittingly moved towards his face.
Startled by her own movent, Vera was about to retract her hand when he suddenly opened his eyes.
"Want to touch ?!"
"I... I wasn’t!" Vera hastily extended her arm, and with a swift CLICK, turned off the lamp on his side of the bed. "I was just turning off the light! Don’t you know it wastes electricity?!"
The mont she finished speaking, Kris’s arm around her tightened. He pulled her body swiftly towards him, and her retreating arm landed on his neck.
