"The superstar has arrived!"
The crowd surged like a tide toward the entrance, and Vera Wave and rlin Bradley were swept along with them.
Vera Wave raised her head curiously and saw security guards hastily blocking the crowd. anwhile, a convoy of black cars quickly passed through the swarm of people, driving into the Film Studio’s gates.
The car windows were tightly shut. Through the glass, Vera Wave couldn’t even distinguish whether the person inside was male or female, let alone recognize who they were.
rlin Bradley seed very excited. After pushing her way out of the crowd with Vera Wave, she kept looking in the direction the convoy had left, saying, "I wonder who it is. They’ve got quite an entourage."
"Whoever it is," Vera Wave said, pulling out her phone to find a number. "We should focus on our work now."
She found Daffa Perkin’s number in her phone contacts and imdiately dialed him.
Daffa Perkin’s job was, to put it nicely, a talent scout and artist manager. To put it less nicely, he was simply a gopher on set who would do anything for money.
After her family went broke, Vera Wave would do any job for money, short of selling herself. She had t Daffa Perkin while distributing flyers. He had been drawn to her sweet appearance and even introduced her to a photo ad shoot.
"Daffa, it’s Vera. I’m looking for two actors. Do you have so ti?"
She could find extras herself, but the lead roles needed to be played by soone with experience if the production was to look good. Such experienced actors were hard to find, certainly not just by scouting on the street.
"Vera, you’re right on ti! It’s an ergency. Co quickly! I’m in the eastern area of the Ming Dynasty set."
"Okay, we’ll be there shortly."
Upon hearing that Daffa Perkin was also at the North Film Studio, Vera Wave imdiately felt a surge of joy and quickly led rlin Bradley to the eastern area of the Ming Dynasty set.
From afar, they saw a group of people filming.
"Vera, over here!"
She was still looking for him when a man of dium height from the crowd waved at her. It was Daffa Perkin.
"Busy day, Daffa!" Vera Wave said, walking over with rlin Bradley.
"Hurry, hurry, hurry!" Without pausing to explain, Daffa Perkin pulled Vera Wave toward the make-up artist’s station. "Quickly, get her makeup started! Costus... costus! Bring those over!"
"Wait, Daffa," Vera Wave interrupted, trying to stand. "I’m not here for a job. I need your help to find two actors."
"You help out with this first, and I’ll find you not just two actors, but two hundred!" Daffa Perkin urged, pressing her back into the chair and pointing nearby. "I booked a young model for today, but she bailed, and the director is losing it with ! This is an absolute ergency—I swear I’ll make it worth your while! It’s only two scenes, four lines, and I’ll pay you one thousand USD."
While they were still talking, the make-up artist had already started to apply makeup to Vera Wave, and soone from wardrobe had brought over a costu. It was a student uniform from the Republic of China era: a light blue short jacket and a black skirt.
At this point, Vera Wave found it hard to decline.
"Let be clear, Daffa. I’ve never acted before. If I ss this up, don’t bla ."
Daffa Perkin had already jogged over and fetched the script.
Vera Wave’s role in this scene was simple. She was to play a patriotic student from a wealthy family who helps the protagonist, only to be stabbed to death by a concubine who was also a female spy.
Soon, her makeup was done. Daffa Perkin personally escorted Vera Wave to the Changing Room to get dressed. This was rlin Bradley’s first ti witnessing sothing like this, and she excitedly trailed after them.
