HISS— She sucked in a sharp breath from the pain, clutching her throbbing forehead as she sat in the car.
"Idiot!" Kris Cooper cursed, but his hand had already reached out, cradling her cheek and moving her palm away.
"Does it hurt?"
"Nonsense! Try hitting your own head on tal and see!"
She actually had the gall!
Seeing the small red lump blossoming on her pale, little forehead, he felt a mix of anger and heartache.
At that mont, Vera quickly shrank back.
"What are you looking at? Drive! Soone might see... Why drive such a flashy car anyway? Can’t you be a bit more low-key?!"
Kris Cooper shook his head and started the car.
"What do you want to eat? Call Mrs. Feng and ask her to make it for you."
Vera looked up at him. "Are you done with work?"
"I’ll take you ho first, then go back. There’s still work to do at the company."
She raised an eyebrow. "Then why did you even co? It’s not like I can’t get a taxi."
Kris Cooper glanced at her. "Weren’t you the one who wanted to see ?"
At the ntion of this, Vera rembered the mischief she’d caused, and her little face imdiately fell.
Pouting, she peeked discreetly at Kris Cooper, who was driving. After a mont, she unbuckled her seatbelt and leaned over, close to his face.
"Honey, you pulled an all-nighter yesterday, didn’t you? Your eyes are all bloodshot; they must be uncomfortable... I have so eye drops. Want so?"
Expecting him to use eye drops while driving?
Kris Cooper’s lips quirked. This little rascal is definitely trying to butter up because she did sothing behind my back.
"What trouble did you get into?"
"Nothing! I’m just concerned about you."
"Confess and you’ll be treated with leniency; resist and you’ll be punished severely."
Vera pouted. After a mont, she couldn’t resist leaning over again.
"Honey, did work go smoothly today? Are you in a good mood?"
It was such a big deal; how could she dare tell him so casually? What if he lost his temper...
She had barely finished speaking when Kris Cooper spoke again.
"I promise I won’t get angry with you. Go on, tell ."
"Really?"
He nodded.
"What if... what if it’s sothing really bad I did?"
Kris Cooper stopped the car at a red light and turned to look seriously into her eyes, which were peeking timidly back at him.
"Unless you’re planning to leave , I can forgive you for anything else."
As soon as he finished speaking, the young woman unbuckled her seatbelt again and leaned towards him.
THUD!
Before she could kiss him, her head hit the car roof again.
Fortunately, the roof was lined with soft material, so it didn’t hurt.
She gave a self-deprecating laugh, leaned in, and planted a quick kiss on his cheek.
"You’re the best, honey! You’re just like Maitreya Buddha, whose great belly can tolerate things the world cannot..."
"Stop with the flattery and get to the point!"
He had no desire to beco a Buddha; he still wanted to enjoy the passions and worldly pleasures of life!
"Ahem!" Vera cleared her throat. "So, I’ll tell you?"
He nodded.
"I’m really telling you now."
He nodded again.
"Honey, I really..."
Halfway through her sentence, Kris Cooper frowned and looked over. Is this little rascal trying to kill with suspense?!
"Don’t be angry, don’t be angry! I’ll really tell you this ti!" Vera took a deep breath, swallowed, looked away, and stared straight ahead before speaking. "I arranged everything concerning Irene Spencer!"
Having said her piece, she clenched her fists and gritted her teeth, staring forward, bracing herself for the storm from the man beside her.
She held her breath for a few seconds, but no response ca.
Puzzled, she turned her face, only to see Kris Cooper looking back at her with an equally puzzled expression.
"Irene Spencer... What about her?!"
