Getting out of the taxi, Vera Wave carried her bag in one hand and the rented dress in the other, running up the steps with a spring in her step, and rang the doorbell.
In a mont, Mrs. Feng ca over to open the door, smiling as she took the dress from Vera’s hand.
"Where’s Kris?"
"Sir is in the backyard."
Hearing that Kris Cooper was in the backyard, Vera imdiately dashed towards it like a little bird. When she saw Kris Cooper’s head appearing half-hidden behind the flowering trees, she cheerfully called out.
"Honey, I’m back!" As she spoke, she had already rounded the trees, surprised to see two people turning their faces at the sa ti, "Grandma?!"
A second later, she ca to her senses and rushed over to hug the elder who was feeding fish with fish food in hand.
"Grandma, what are you doing here? Did the doctor let you out of the hospital..."
"This is my ho. Where else would I be?" Grandma Wave laughed with a clucking sound, "Don’t shake , or all my fish food will spill, you child... Always like this since young, never acting like a composed girl!"
"I don’t want to be composed, I want Grandma!"
Vera wrapped her arms around the elder’s neck, her face full of joy.
"The doctor said Grandma has recovered well, and she can co ho to recuperate slowly," Kris Cooper explained with a smile from the side.
"Look at these little things, they’re all anxious!"
The elder let go of her and continued throwing fish food into the pond. Vera stood beside, watching the side profile of the elder’s face.
Whether it was the effect of the sunset or the happiness of coming ho, the elder’s face not only bead with a smile but also looked exceptionally well.
After feeding the fish, she picked up garden shears to trim the branches, talking incessantly to Kris Cooper about the techniques of pruning, her deanor just like before, as if she had never been ill.
It had been a long ti since Grandma was so happy. Vera’s gaze fell on Kris Cooper’s face, who was helping the elder hold the flower branches, and naturally, a feeling of gratitude rose in her heart.
Walking over to the two’s side, she quickly leaned in and kissed him on the cheek while Grandma Wave was trimming.
Seeing Grandma Wave turn around, she imdiately pretended to take the flower branch from his hand.
"Let have it?"
"No need," Kris Cooper smiled back at her, "Why don’t you go check Grandma’s room and see if there’s anything you’re not happy with, so Mrs. Li can tidy it up. I’ve already spoken with her, from now on she’ll live here with Mrs. Feng to help take care of Grandma."
Vera was about to speak when Grandma Wave handed over a freshly cut flower branch.
"Kris, keep this for Grandma. This is a two-year branch; if it’s clipped and put in a bottle of water, and once it takes root, it can be planted..."
Kris Cooper took the branch, "Then let’s plant it on the east side too, so next year, around this ti, when you open the window, you’ll see a patch of flowers."
Grandma Wave nodded with a smile, "This child, always so understanding."
Seeing them engrossed in conversation, Vera didn’t interrupt them any further, putting down her bag inside and walked to the room where Grandma Wave used to stay. Mrs. Li was making the bed for the elder, and she quickly ca over to help.
"No, no!" Mrs. Li quickly stopped her, "I can handle this small task on my own."
"Thank you for your hard work," Vera said gratefully.
"What’s there to thank for? Isn’t this my job?" Mrs. Li laughed as she straightened the sheet, "Miss Vera, you sure have had a turn of fortune this ti. Mr. Cooper is truly your benefactor..."
