She ran too fast, her high heels wobbled, and her body lost balance.
Seeing her body sway on the stairs ahead, Kris Cooper felt his heart lurch and rushed over to support her, but the young girl had already regained her balance and was clattering up the stairs.
Worried she might get hurt, he stopped in his tracks and didn’t dare chase after her.
Vera Wave ran up several steps before leaning against the handrail and smiling at him.
"Mr. Cooper, thank you for smoothing things over for earlier. Don’t worry, I’ll work hard and repay you soon. Bye!"
She waved at him, turned around, and ran up the stairs.
Standing in place, he tilted his face up, listening to the sound of her footsteps reaching the 30th floor, and only after hearing her push open the safety door did Kris Cooper relax and exhale.
Putting his hands in his pockets, he climbed back to the 31st floor and walked into his office.
Seeing him return, Tommy Taylor imdiately followed in, placing a piece of information on the desk.
"This is the hospital admission form from People’s Hospital; the records show that on April 7th six years ago, Miss Wave was admitted here for treatnt."
Kris Cooper’s grip on the papers tightened.
He rembered clearly, April 1st was her birthday, and he had celebrated it with her.
Later, she said she had so family matters to attend to back ho for a few days, and since he had just taken on a new project at the company and couldn’t leave, he didn’t accompany her back.
On the day she returned ho, they had a long overseas call, but after the 6th, she vanished without a trace.
"Ergency room."
Seeing the departnt na displayed on the docunt, the man furrowed his brows, glanced at the cover, and flipped to the next page.
The next page contained a photocopy of the doctor’s orders, with the doctor’s handwriting sowhat scribbled; due to the photocopying and the illegible handwriting, he couldn’t discern what it said.
"I found the doctor back then, but it was too long ago, and he couldn’t rember clearly. He only helped identify that the doctor’s diagnosis on the sheet wrote ’severe coma with no obvious trauma.’ According to the prescription on the doctor’s orders, Miss Wave should have undergone a full body examination at the ti, finding no significant injuries, just so external abrasions and bruises."
"What happened then?"
"Miss Wave regained consciousness on the morning of the third day, and later the family strongly requested discharge. The hospital had no choice but to let them sign a liability waiver and processed the discharge."
"Are there no other hospital treatnt records?"
Tommy Taylor shook his head, "I’ve checked several major hospitals in the capital city, but found none."
Over the years, Kris Cooper could never understand why Vera Wave, who had decided to marry him, suddenly went silent.
Later, whenever he recalled what she said, it felt like mockery.
Now, it seed she hadn’t contacted him because of her hospitalization.
But even so, why couldn’t her phone be reached?
What accident caused her coma, why was the Wave Clan so keen on her discharge, and why didn’t she contact him again after being discharged...?
Facing him now, she acted like a stranger who had never t him before, why is that?
No, he needed to know the reasons behind these things; she owed him an explanation.
"Sir," Tommy Taylor spoke softly, "Should I order lunch for you?"
Taylor’s voice pulled Kris Cooper out of his thoughts, he looked up from the papers and gently shook his head.
"No, you can go get busy."
Tommy Taylor turned and walked toward the door, and Kris Cooper reached out and picked up the phone on the table.
"Connect to the logistics departnt."
