Feeling the strength in Vera’s arm, Kris Cooper just raised the corner of his mouth and gently patted her small hand with his large one.
"Is soone bullying you at work?"
She shook her head lightly.
"Is there sothing you need my help with?"
She still shook her head.
Gently releasing her small hand, Kris Cooper turned his puzzled face toward her. He gazed at her delicately made-up face, which seed even more exquisite, a trace of worry reflected in his eyes.
"What happened?"
She had never been one to hide things, especially since he had always understood her well.
She specifically wore new clothes today, put on makeup, tidied the room... and even prepared ingredients. If this doesn’t an she needs sothing from him, it would be very unusual.
"What?" Vera pouted. "Can’t I show so care for my husband?"
"Really nothing?"
She pursed her lips. "If you don’t believe it, forget it. I’m leaving!"
She turned around, pretending to leave.
"Don’t leave..." Kris Cooper stretched out his arm, hooking her waist. He hugged her from behind, leaned in, and kissed her ear. "If my Vera leaves, where will I find a wife?"
Just that one sentence, and her entire facade almost shattered.
Her eyes ward, on the verge of shedding tears.
She sucked in a breath, forced back her tears, and spoke in a coquettish tone.
"Your wife is starving now, you better start cooking!"
Kris Cooper kissed her hair again. "Don’t worry, I’m going right now."
After releasing her waist, he took her injured arm and examined it, ensuring it was fine. Then, he took her other hand and led her downstairs.
"Wait for on the sofa for a mont. I’ll be done soon!"
She held onto his hand tightly, unwilling to let go. "I want to watch you cook!"
"Okay!" He gently tapped her small nose. Kris Cooper said cheerfully, "Then you can enjoy the sight of your man looking handso while he cooks!"
They both went into the kitchen. Kris Cooper picked up an apron, and she went behind him to help him tie the straps.
She tied the bow very carefully, only letting go when it was perfectly symtrical.
"Done."
Kris Cooper smiled, took the frying pan, and checked the ingredients she had prepared. Then he turned on the stove and poured in the oil.
His movents showed no signs of being unpracticed; in fact, he was quite skilled.
He had learned to make steak back then simply because of a casual comnt she made, and he had taken it to heart.
Not only had he bought cookbooks and watched videos, but he had even hired a Michelin-starred chef to personally teach him the secrets.
In his entire life, Kris Cooper only knew how to make two dishes—Red Wine Steak and Vegetable Salad—but these were the two dishes he had perfected.
Vera stood to the side, watching him pour oil, seriously observing the temperature...
While he usually seed sowhat carefree, he was intensely focused when he set his mind to sothing.
That look, devoid of his usual laziness, possessed a captivating charm that made her heart flutter.
For a mont, her resolve wavered. Maybe she could just stay. Even if he only loved her as a substitute, as long as she could see him, be close to him, and be pampered by him every day... that would be good too.
"Done!" Kris Cooper placed the steak on a plate. "Your favorite dium-well."
His words shattered her impulse instantly.
Enough! Vera, are you still going to lie to yourself?
