Seeing his figure in the rearview mirror, she imdiately put down her phone, opened the car door, and noticed the sweat on the man’s forehead. She quickly took out a tissue to wipe it for him.
"Seeing you all sweaty, anyone would think you’ve been digging for gold. What took so long?"
"Oh... I got turned around and took the wrong way," Kris Cooper didn’t tell the truth.
The girl ant well. If she knew that Liliana Davis had discarded the flowers Vera had intended for Brandy Leafcastle, she would undoubtedly be very upset.
"I already said I’d go with you, but you refused!"
Vera Wave pouted, pulled out another tissue, and carefully wiped his sweat.
After returning her handbag to her and getting back into the car, Kris Cooper undid one more button on his shirt, started the car, and drove out of the parking lot.
"Vera, how was your relationship with Liliana Davis before?"
"How do you know Auntie Liliana’s na?"
"You’ve ntioned it!"
"Did I?" Vera stuck out her tongue. "I forgot. Auntie Liliana is very nice, and she treats very well."
Kris Cooper grew even more puzzled. If that was the case, why would Liliana Davis discard the flowers from Vera? Could it be because of her involvent with Nathan Leafcastle? No, that didn’t seem right either. If that were true, why would Liliana Davis greet Vera with a smile and act so friendly toward her? Given Liliana Davis’s status, there was no need for her to be duplicitous with Vera. Why play such a two-faced ga, unless there was so unntionable secret between them?
"What are you thinking about?"
Seeing his frowning expression and his silence, Vera asked in puzzlent.
Kris Cooper’s expression relaxed. "Nothing."
Vera did not dwell on it and imdiately began to discuss their arrangents for the trip to Arica.
After more than ten hours of flying, the plane smoothly landed on the other side of the Pacific Ocean.
Vera had slept soundly on the plane and was now full of energy.
Revisiting this familiar place, she felt a rush of excitent. With her hands clasped behind her back, she walked beside Kris Cooper, looking left and right like a tourist exploring a foreign land for the first ti.
Suddenly, upon seeing a boarding gate, she quickened her pace and grabbed Kris Cooper.
"When you saw off on my flight back ho, I boarded the plane right here, didn’t I? I rember now! You even bought a set of books but only gave the first volu, saying it was to prevent from leaving and never coming back... Kris Cooper, you were so silly. Did you really think I couldn’t buy the second volu myself?"
She teased, but the man beside her gazed at the boarding gate, silent.
At that ti, she had been cramming for her French studies, so he had specifically bought an English-French bilingual book for her. It was intended for her to pass the ti on the plane and also to review her French.
It was just a casual joke back then, but he never expected it to beco a prophecy.
Later, he had regretted it countless tis, agonizing over why he had to make that kind of joke and wishing he could slap himself.
Reading the emotions in his expression, Vera gently squeezed his fingers and said softly, "Honey, I’m sorry."
The man withdrew his gaze and smiled at her.
"Let’s go."
Now that she was back by his side, what happened back then could finally be treated as a funny story.
They hadn’t even left the airport when staff from the New York office arrived to et them.
As they rode to their hotel, the staff gave Kris Cooper a brief rundown of their schedule.
It was noon in New York. Following his prior instructions, the staff had scheduled the eting for the afternoon. This allowed him to have as much extra ti as possible to spend with Vera.
