Vera’s fingers trembled, and the bag in her hand almost slipped to the ground. Staring at Nathan Leafcastle’s face, her tone was full of surprise.
"What did you say?"
"What did I say?" Nathan Leafcastle sneered, "Didn’t you understand? Fine, I’ll say it again. The ones who caused the Wave Clan to go bankrupt, your dad to jump off a building, your grandma to be hospitalized, and you to be holess... were Christopher Cooper and the Ashton Group. Perhaps Kris Cooper also played a part!"
"No!" Vera shook her head, "Impossible."
"Impossible?" Nathan Leafcastle laughed in anger, "You don’t believe it? Then let ask you, why did Glimr, not soone else, acquire Walter Wave Real Estate? Why did the Ashton Group compete with Walter Wave for the Deer Island project back then but ultimately fail? Why did Kris Cooper et with my mother... because he was afraid, afraid my mom would reveal the truth!"
"Impossible!" Vera raised her hands to cover her ears, "Stop talking, I won’t believe you, Kris would never harm my dad, never!"
Reaching out to grab her hand, Nathan Leafcastle moved closer to her face.
"I must say it. I want you to wake up. I thought you found a man who would give you a happy life. Now I realize I was wrong. I should never have let go back then..."
"Let go!"
Vera forcefully pulled her hand back and turned to run downstairs.
"Vera!"
Sally Dalton put down her teacup and chased downstairs, only to see Vera already getting into a car, commanding Tommy Taylor to drive.
Watching the car drive off, Sally Dalton frowned and turned around to see Nathan Leafcastle standing on the stairs. She just shook her head.
"Nathan, why did you say all that?"
"I had to say it. I wanted her to know she chose the wrong person!"
With a roar, Nathan Leafcastle turned around, stord upstairs, and slamd the door shut. Sally Dalton furrowed her delicate eyebrows and sighed helplessly.

Inside the car.
Tommy Taylor drove out of the villa complex where Nathan Leafcastle lived, glancing at Vera in the backseat through the rearview mirror.
In the back, Vera’s lips were tightly pressed, her brows furrowed, and her expression was pale and despondent.
No need to ask; Tommy Taylor could already guess the outco.
He took a breath and spoke softly.
"You don’t need to be too upset. Even if Nathan Leafcastle files a lawsuit, the president hasn’t done anything, so there’s nothing to worry about. Sir already called, and I didn’t dare to tell the truth; I just said you’d be back shortly. Soon, sir and madam will return, and we can discuss it properly. Is that okay?"
Vera knew he referred to Christopher Cooper’s grandfather as "sir," and she nodded gently.
"Okay."
Tommy Taylor continued driving. Seeing her deanor, he wanted to speak but then closed his mouth.

Vera’s mind flashed to the images of Christopher Cooper and Bailey Hansen, and she imdiately shook her head.
No, impossible!
Kris Cooper’s parents had always been kind and gentle to her, without any airs, and there was no grudge or enmity between the two families. How could they possibly target the Wave Clan?
