"Mrs. Lee, you’ve worked hard these past few days. Here, take this as a small token of my appreciation."
"No, no, there’s no need." Mrs. Lee hurriedly waved her hands in refusal. "Mr. Cooper already gives a monthly bonus; I can’t accept more money from you."
"He... he gives you a bonus?"
"Yes, Mr. Cooper... Mr. Cooper asked not to tell you." Mrs. Lee laughed, sowhat embarrassed. "He treats you so well. Sigh... how could such a good man be unjustly accused!"
Vera’s heart sank.
"Let take you ho!"
Vera escorted Mrs. Lee back to the old mansion. While Mrs. Lee packed her luggage, Vera went inside and quietly placed an envelope filled with cash into her suitcase. "I have sothing else to attend to, so I won’t see you off properly. You can take a taxi ho later."
"Please, go about your business." Mrs. Lee turned to her. "The elders where I’m from always say that everyone faces a few hurdles in life. Once you overco them, things will definitely get better. You have my phone number. If you need anything in the future, feel free to call anyti. I can’t do much else, but when it cos to caring for people, I’m the best."
"Okay." Vera nodded. "Thank you!"
After bidding Mrs. Lee farewell, Vera glanced at the grand mansion before her, then turned and walked out the main gate.

Upon arriving at the Cooper residence, Vera entered to find Ms. Zhang pacing anxiously in the living room. Ms. Zhang imdiately hurried over to greet her.
"Miss, you’re finally back."
"What happened?"
"The Old Master... the Old Master knows!"
Vera’s brow twitched. "What happened?!"
"I was cooking in the kitchen at noon, and the Old Master was watching TV by himself when he accidentally saw the news!" Ms. Zhang looked apologetic. "I honestly didn’t know that news would be broadcast. I was in the kitchen, and by the ti I heard it, it was too late... and then..."
"Where’s Grandpa now?"
"In his room upstairs. Sir and Madam are also there."
Vera nodded and ascended the stairs to the second floor.
Upon reaching the Old Master’s bedroom, she could hear Christoper’s voice through the slightly ajar door.
"Dad, please don’t worry. Bailey and I will figure sothing out."
"That’s right, Kris didn’t actually kill anyone. You really mustn’t worry yourself sick."
"I know," ca Henry’s voice. The old man sounded weak, his tone filled with helplessness. "Sigh, how could sothing like this happen?! Why on earth did it happen?!"
Bailey’s tone was equally helpless. "I’ve asked him a thousand tis, but that stubborn bastard is incredibly tight-lipped and refuses to say why. My guess is, it’s almost certainly related to Vera."
"Vera?!" Henry asked, perplexed. "How could it be related to Vera?"
"Liliana Davis is Nathan Leafcastle’s mother. Nathan and Vera seed to be quite close before," Bailey explained. "I heard from Tommy Taylor that Kris once clashed with Liliana Davis during a Construction Committee eting, apparently over the Deer Island project."
"What about Vera?!" Henry asked worriedly.
Christoper sighed. "She’s been quite down and not in good spirits these past few days. If she cos back, please don’t ntion this to her."
"I understand." Henry responded lightly. "She’s a pitiable child too. Give her a call, ask her to co back. I’ll talk to her and try to ease her mind so she doesn’t feel burdened."
"Alright." Bailey took out her phone to make the call.
Standing outside, Vera wiped her eyes, gathered her spirits, and walked inside.
"Grandpa, are you okay?!"
