The next morning, Kris Cooper took the breakfast Mrs. Zhang had prepared and hurried to the detention center.
Inside the detention center, the staff already recognized him. When Kris Cooper stated his purpose, the person in charge was quite troubled.
"Mr. Cooper, I am truly sorry, but according to regulations, family mbers aren’t allowed to visit alone."
After Kris Cooper pleaded for a long ti, the staff mber, who knew about the relationship between the Cooper family and Lucille Matthias, found he couldn’t refuse him and finally agreed with reluctance.
"Mr. Cooper, let’s be clear: this is a one-ti exception. It won’t happen again!"
Kris Cooper thanked him repeatedly.
The man then called another staff mber over and asked him to bring Vera Wave out to et Kris Cooper.
Carrying the breakfast he had brought, Kris Cooper entered the reception room and waited, frowning.
A mont later, footsteps sounded from outside. Hearing them, Kris Cooper rose and strode to the door.
The door was pulled open. It wasn’t Vera Wave who entered, but the staff mber. Kris looked past the staff mber, but he didn’t see the person he longed for.
"Where’s Vera?!"
The staff mber t his gaze and noted his expression. "She said she doesn’t want to see you."
"This... How is this possible?!" Kris Cooper was stunned. "She... she must still be angry with . Could you please go to her one more ti? Just say... I’ve co to apologize to her. Sorry to trouble you!"
The staff mber nodded and left again.
He returned a short while later, still alone.
"What... What did she say?!"
The staff mber shook his head gently.
"She still refuses to see you."
"Didn’t you tell her I ca to apologize?"
"I did, but she just said she didn’t want to see you."
Kris Cooper gritted his teeth. "Then... can I go in to see her?"
"Mr. Cooper," the staff mber said, his expression troubled. "You should know this is already an exception. The cell block is a restricted area; you absolutely cannot enter. Otherwise... why don’t you co back another day with a lawyer?"
Kris Cooper frowned in thought, then got so paper and a pen and wrote a note.
"Could you please give this to her?"
The staff mber took the note. "This really is the last ti. If she still refuses to see you, please co back another day."
"Okay, thank you, thank you!"
The staff mber left again. Kris Cooper followed him out as far as the barred iron gate. From there, he watched the staff mber pass through multiple heavy iron doors and disappear at the end of the corridor before he finally stopped.
Arriving at Vera Wave’s cell, the staff mber opened the door and stepped inside.
Inside the cell, Vera Wave was sitting on the bed with her knees drawn to her chest, staring blankly at the blue sky visible through the small window in the wall.
"Mr. Cooper asked to pass this note to you."
The staff mber handed over the note, which was folded in half. Vera Wave turned her head to look at the note in his hand.
After a mont’s hesitation, she finally reached out, took the note in her fingers, and unfolded it. It bore the man’s familiar handwriting.
"Vera, I was wrong yesterday. I know you’re doing all this because you love . Please, co out and see just once, okay?"
"Miss Wave, Mr. Cooper is waiting right outside," the staff mber began softly. "He repeatedly asked to persuade you. He even brought breakfast specially. Why don’t you go and et him?"
Vera Wave closed the note in her hand, took a deep breath, then turned her face to the staff mber and said, "Please, tell him to go back and focus on his work. When Ashton and Glimr are completely on track, I will see him then."
