"At that ti, my client’s husband, Mr. Kris Cooper, couldn’t find his wife, so he went to look for her in the bathroom. When he reached the bathroom, the door was locked. He called out loudly, and only then did Liliana Davis open the door. I have other witnesses who can corroborate this. At that ti, only the deceased and my client were in the bathroom. I ask the court: if Liliana Davis hadn’t done anything to my client, why would she lock the door?"
"I object," the prosecutor interjected again. "You also said that only the defendant and the victim were present at the scene. How can you be sure this isn’t a fabrication from the defendant?"
In the dock, Vera Wave listened calmly to the heated debate. The air inside the courtroom felt heavy, and its strange odor made a wave of nausea churn in her chest as she breathed it in.
She forcefully tried to suppress it, but the churning sensation beca more pronounced. She raised a hand to cover her mouth but couldn’t control the nausea and finally squatted down.
"Vera!"
In the public gallery, Kris Cooper was the first to react, leaping over the wooden railing to rush to her side. However, court staff quickly intervened, blocking his path.
Kris Cooper struggled, shouting angrily, "Let go of ! Can’t you see she’s unwell?!"
On the other side of the public gallery, Nathan Leafcastle had already stood up.
By this ti, court staff had also noticed Vera’s deteriorating condition. One of them supported her by the shoulders and asked if she was alright, but Vera could no longer speak. She simply covered her mouth, her face pale, and made an urgent gesture. Imdiately, Sophia Thompson spoke up, "Your Honor, the defendant appears to be in discomfort. I request a short recess."
"Recess!"
The judge glanced at Vera and declared a recess. Court staff then helped her out through a small side door, while Sophia Thompson rushed over to Kris Cooper, who was still struggling.
"Calm down, I’m going to check on her!"
Christoper Cooper and Bailey Hansen had already hurried over. They managed to restrain Kris Cooper, allowing Sophia Thompson to quickly leave and check on Vera’s condition.
No one had anticipated such an unexpected turn of events so early in the trial.
Christoper Cooper and his companions took Kris Cooper to a waiting room, while Nathan Leafcastle and his party also left the courtroom.
"Hmph!" the prosecutor snorted upon entering the room. "Sophia Thompson wants to argue self-defense in this case, but I won’t let her. That girl is clearly inexperienced. In a mont, I’ll interrogate her thoroughly and force her to slip up..."
"No," Nathan Leafcastle interjected with a frown.
"Mr. Leafcastle?" The prosecutor turned, puzzled. "But didn’t you say you wanted to find evidence of her perjury and bring Kris Cooper to justice? If we don’t break down her psychological defenses, we can’t do it! Rest assured, I can handle this. I’ve looked into Vera’s background; she’s just a forr pampered rich girl, not much of a scher..."
"Shut up!" Nathan Leafcastle cut him off sharply, grabbing his collar. "I said no, didn’t you hear ?"
"Then what do you suggest?!"
Nathan Leafcastle released him and walked to the window. Staring out at the city, Vera’s face once again flashed through his mind.

"Brother Nathan, will you always protect ?"
"Of course. I will protect you like a knight protecting his princess."
"Then good! I now crown you my chief knight!"
...
Her charming childhood smile seed to flicker on the windowpane, only to be replaced by the recent, pitiful image of her pale face as she squatted on the ground. A dull ache tightened in Nathan Leafcastle’s chest.
