The man’s other hand lightly extended, slipping into her clothes and resting on her left chest.
Through her bra, then her soft skin, he could still feel the rapid throb of her heartbeat.
"Then why is your heart beating so fast?"
The man’s fingers were cool, but his palm held its usual warmth, and the contact seed to scald her, making her heart pound even faster.
Vera Wave panicked and tried to struggle free, but his palm was like an iron clamp. Though it didn’t hurt her, it was an unyielding restraint she couldn’t escape.
"I... I’m feeling hot!"
His fingers lightly grazed her skin, his tone laced with a teasing lilt.
"So hot that you’re getting goosebumps, hm?"
There were so things far beyond her control. Despite not wanting it to, her body still reacted to his touch.
Flustered and annoyed, she grabbed his restless fingers.
"Those... those are because you’re making cold!"
Kris Cooper’s lips curled into a smile, and he finally couldn’t help but laugh out loud. Reaching out, he pulled her into his embrace.
"I know you must have so compelling reasons." He gently stroked her long hair, his tone full of tenderness and concern. "You’re right. I was too impulsive before. Now, I apologize. I’m sorry, Vera. It was all my fault. I shouldn’t have lost my temper with you without understanding the full picture. I won’t do it again, I promise!"
Vera Wave was pressed against his chest, unable to move, a wave of poignant sorrow rising in her throat.
If he were angry with her, if he used force... perhaps she could still manage to be cold and unyielding towards him. But he was just so gentle, so gentle that her heart softened, and she couldn’t bring herself to utter a single harsh word. What was she supposed to do with such a maddening rogue?
He gently lifted her small face, gazing at her reddened eyes as Kris Cooper spoke softly, "Now, tell , what’s going on?"

She shook her head.

She shook her head again.
"Vera!" Kris Cooper gripped her shoulders, his thumbs tilting her face up so she couldn’t avoid his gaze. "Do you rember what we said six years ago? That no one could ever separate us, that no matter how hard things got, we would face them together? We’re married now, and you’re carrying our child... Are you really going to give up at this point?"
Her tears finally broke free, streaming down her face.
She didn’t want this either. But she truly couldn’t bear it anymore—the nightly nightmares, the crushing guilt and self-reproach she felt whenever she faced him. Her father had died because of his father, yet she had fallen in love with the enemy’s son.
"Kris, I beg you, please don’t ask anymore. If you truly still love , then don’t co looking for again, alright?"
"No!" he said firmly. "I must know the answer. Otherwise, I’ll just keep following you. To hell with Ashton and Glimr!"
"You!" She gritted her teeth and raised her face. "I’ve already let down my father. Do you still want to bear the guilt of ruining Ashton and Glimr too?"
"Father?!" Kris Cooper frowned. "You’re talking about... your father?"
"Don’t ask anymore! You go, just go!" She raised her hands and forcefully pushed him away. "Go quickly, I don’t want to see you!"
