A twitch ran through Kris Cooper’s temples, and the hand holding Vera Wave’s wrist unconsciously tightened.
"What ’inclination’ are you suggesting?"
The man’s grip was like a vise. Vera felt as if her bones were about to be crushed.
"You are..." The man’s eyes blazed with anger, as if he could unleash a torrent of fire to reduce her to ashes at any mont. Vera’s voice trembled. "You are..."
She was too nervous to rember the correct term for sexual orientation.
To be threatened so closely by a man, with her hand still on him... At this mont, Vera felt even more on the verge of collapse than Kris Cooper.
RING!
The phone on the desk rang suddenly.
Vera shuddered and collected herself, hurrying to speak.
Glancing at the man’s murderous gaze, she reached over with her left hand, picked up the receiver, and placatingly offered it to him.
"The... phone!"
Taking a deep breath to suppress his anger, Kris turned his head and spoke into the receiver.
"Who is it?!"
"Brother Kris, it’s ."
A sweet female voice ca from the phone.
A chill swept over Kris. "What’s up?"
"It’s my birthday party this weekend. You absolutely have to co!"
Seeing him take the call, Vera tentatively tried to pull back her hand, which he still held fast. The mont she moved, his murderous gaze shot towards her.
She quickly forced a smile.
"Please, take your call. Go ahead."
The girl on the phone clearly heard her, and her voice imdiately sharpened.
"Who’s that speaking?"
Fearful of ruining things for him, Vera hurriedly brought the receiver to her own mouth. "Miss, please don’t misunderstand! I have absolutely no relationship with Manager Kris. We’re just... Ah..."
Before she could finish, the man’s body leaned heavily against her, his face lowering, his coarse, hot breath fanning her cheek.
How dare she say she has no relationship with him! Is this damn girl trying to force him to make one with her?!
"Who are you?"
Without receiving an answer from her, the girl on the line kept asking.
Before Vera could speak, Kris Cooper reached out and pressed the hang-up button.
Clutching the receiver, listening to the dial tone, Vera watched the man’s hand reach for her and instinctively shrank back.
"What... what do you think you’re doing?!"
The man before her had bloodshot eyes, filled with an unrestrained emotion completely different from his usual deanor. He was like a starving leopard facing a tantalizing deer, exuding pure aggression.
Vera had no doubt he might tear her apart and swallow her whole at any mont.
The object beneath her palm was already rock-hard, its heat searing her skin even through the fabric. She could barely breathe, her heart pounding erratically.
Kris Cooper hooked a finger under the collar of her shirt.
"Since you can’t answer, I’ll show you exactly what kind of ’inclination’ I have!"
He used so much force her shirt couldn’t withstand it. With a soft tearing sound, he ripped the collar open.
Hearing the fabric rip, a dull roar filled Vera’s ears. It was as if she’d suddenly plunged into a nightmare; a profound fear surged from the depths of her heart. Her face turned deathly pale, and she scread, her voice dry and hoarse.
"No!"
Hearing her heart-wrenching scream, Kris Cooper’s heart clenched. Only then did he realize what he was doing. His grip instinctively loosened.
