The Finance Departnt Manager thought Kris Cooper was upset about the financial situation. "Mr. President, please calm down," he said. "This situation occurred because several paynts haven’t been collected yet..."
"Shut up!"
Kris Cooper abruptly pushed back his chair, stood up, and briskly strode out of the office.
No, he had to find out for himself. If anyone dared to tornt her, he would make them pay.
At the table, everyone looked at each other, confused. What... why did he leave so abruptly in the middle of the eting?!
The Finance Departnt Manager looked perplexedly at Director Kaiden Wilton. "Director! What’s wrong with the President...?"
"You all wait a mont; I’ll go see what’s going on." Kaiden Wilton stood up and hurried out, following Kris Cooper all the way to the CEO’s office. Witnessing Kris Cooper push open the door, he then turned to Tommy Taylor, confused, and asked, "Assistant Taylor, the President just left in the middle of a eting. What on earth is going on?"
Tommy Taylor glanced at the closed door. "You should all head back for now. I don’t think this afternoon’s eting will happen. I’ll notify you when it’s rescheduled!"
Kaiden Wilton glanced confusedly at the CEO’s office door nearby, nodded, then turned and left.
「Inside the door.」
Vera Wave had just managed to stuff the crumpled fax paper into the machine’s slot with difficulty when she heard the door push open. She hurriedly turned her head. Seeing Kris Cooper walk straight towards her, she quickly closed the fax machine’s lid.
"Mr. President, look, I’ve loaded the fax paper correctly. I haven’t wasted any company supplies."
"What happened?" Kris Cooper asked imdiately.
"What do you an by what happened?"
"What happened just now?" Kris Cooper noticed her nervousness and softened his tone. "Don’t be afraid. As long as you answer my questions honestly, I promise not to fire you, nor will I be angry with you, let alone deduct your salary."
Vera Wave was overjoyed and nodded imdiately. "Ask away. I promise to tell you everything I know, holding nothing back."
He nodded and walked over to the sofa. "Co sit."
Vera Wave walked over but stopped in front of the coffee table. "I can stand."
The man raised an eyebrow, and she quickly twisted to sit on the sofa. "Your sofa is really comfortable!"
"Tell the truth. Were you so frightened just now because of sothing that happened in your past?"
"Ah... ?!" Vera Wave blinked. "Just now, I..."
She rembered now; she seed to have had another hallucination just monts ago. No, when she visited her grandmother tonight, she absolutely had to buy so dicine. No, she couldn’t tell him the truth about this. If he found out she frequently experienced hallucinations, he would assu she had a ntal illness and fire her imdiately.
"No... nothing."
"Nothing? Then why did you say, ’I beg you all, don’t co over...’?"
Vera Wave pursed her lips. After a mont, she put on a relaxed expression again. "I... did I say that? I think I said, ’I beg you, Mr. President’—you must have misheard."
Seeing the skepticism in his eyes, Vera Wave lowered her gaze.
"Mr. President, if there’s nothing else, I still have work in my departnt. May I go back now?"
She was clearly hiding sothing, which further solidified Kris Cooper’s judgnt.
The thought that soone might have hurt her made his hands tighten unconsciously, so forcefully that his knuckles emitted a series of sharp CRACKS.
Opposite him, Vera Wave saw his clenched fists. Assuming he was angry with her, she gulped nervously and quickly changed her tune.
"Oh, right! Isn’t it stated in the contract that fulfilling your requests is part of my job description? If you need anything, I can stay here and work too!"
